Hey, this is the author. One thing before you get reading. This is a three part series from different P.O.V.'s. My story should be read last (although it still makes sense without the others). Go check out Tanner And The Forgotten and Addison And The Forgotten. Thanks!
Guns blazed overhead as we sprinted towards the shifting tower. The tower spun up towards the sky, spiking out in majestic angles. It was made of nanobots that spun and folded on itself like water that never obeyed gravity. When they turned, they would reveal hidden electrical bombs and radiation guns. I always creeper out by radiation guns. They focused all of the radiation in the area and shot it at their target. If you got hit by one, you would be instantly turned to muck.
I could hear electricity zapping from the exploding bombs. Commander Jesper was sprinting beside me yelling at the army behind us. There was one small problem, the army wasn't friendly. We raced towards the tower like a herd of..... Well, hmmm, like two screaming, maniac deer running from a pack of rabid wolves, or something. Commander Jesper wasn't yelling words of encouragement. No, it was more of words of discouragement. He would randomly throw his head back and yell at them. The latest word of discouragement was, "You have no chance of catching us you horrible excuse of an army. You are a no good, idiotic bunch that is full of despair and poop. Yeah, despairing poop. Poop that is screaming inside you with despair."
With that taunt, he smiled victoriously at his beautiful display of insults. I looked at him balefully. With those comments, my insides were despairing. He saw my expression and harrumphed. Then turned back for one last insult, "My sister can fight better than you and she's pregnant." Then muttering under his breath, "Or she was several years ago."
I rolled my eyes as we hauled ourselves towards the tower of electrical death, which would be our safety from the army behind us.
We were smack in the middle of dreary plain. The sky was gloomy and shaded everything in an eerie red light. The plain didn't have any grass, it was all dark red dirt. It was scarred by battle and the sun. Jesper and I were on what he called a solo mission....even though there were two of us. Don't ask me why that makes sense to him, because I don't know.
Today was my third test, and my first test in real battle. I was seventeen and was trained for battle.
There were three tests in order to pass my examination. If I passed I would be allowed on the team. If not, I would go back into training, but only if I made it out alive. You know, that big if, like IF we survive then we can have ice-cream.
Jesper always does it backwards as but. We can have ice-cream, BUT we first have to make it out alive. He would say but slowly and with exuberance, then he would crack up. I think he did it just for the enjoyment of calling a situation a butt. "That was sure a big but back there," or "Whew, we made it out alive. The next stage is even harder, and the but is even bigger then the first stage." Then laugh manically. He had a weird sense of humor. Everyone else wanted me to explain Jesper to them but I always got annoyed at that. Just because he is my dad doesn't mean I understand him.
Yeah, yeah, he's my dad. Don't be so surprised. The earth rumbled under my feet and I refocused at the task at hand. I look up into the dark sky and saw an object flying towards us. I realized with horror that it was Rancliff. He was very powerful at his abilities. By that, I mean his super powers, like in the old movies. He could fly and he could create earthquakes. He was also responsible for the Burning. The day that the earth shifted towards the sun which created a chain reaction. They had just invented an atomic bomb that only exploded on certain conditions. It went awry when the earthquake hit it and exploded. It used the crackes in the earth that were made from the earthquake to expand and hit different bombs. It continued until the whole world was exploding.
