I felt better for the rest of the day. I think Butch had to go to the nurse's office. Right before lunch they called me to the principal's office.
I sat down as the Principal started talking. He said, "So, you punched a guy's nose, slammed a guy into the wall, and slammed another one into the ground. My, my."
I nodded respectfully and started, "If I may- "No you may not!" He boomed. "We accepted you and your father on good faith that you would be nice to other students. Not so you could hurt people...Now Butch may be a little mean sometimes and I get that, but if you have a problem, bring it to me."
I realized that what I did was bad in this culture. I could see that the Principal was a just man but was almost at the end of his rope. I spoke, " I am sorry I did what was improper. As you know, my dad and I are not from here. What you don't know is that where we come from, we are at war, and do not have any sort of legal system. As well as educational system."
His eyes softened. He said, "I had heard the reports of that. Which is why I will let this go. But know that if you do it again now knowing it is wrong, I will have to take action."
I nodded. He continued, "Good, then we are done, you may go enjoy your lunch."
I said, "Thank you sir," and went out to lunch.Once I got my plate, I looked around. Addison was with her buddies, Tanner, and Jesper. I looked like they were having a good time and I didn't want to be intruding. I looked some more and saw Seth waving at me. I thought I had scared my new found friend off this morning. Apparently not.
Seth raised his hand as I sat down. I realized that he wanted a high five so I slapped his hand. David, Sam, and was her name Lucy? Was at the table.
Lucy said, "Welcome to the group."
I nodded my thanks and started eating. The day went well. I kept my distance from Addison and Tanner. I went up to Addison after lunch to make sure that she would keep my secret for as long as possible. When I asked her about that night, she just looked at me strangely.
When I pressed her a little bit she said, "I don't know what your talking about."
I think she lost her memory. Maybe it was whatever drug Carson drugged her with (assuming he drugged her).I ran down the hall as fast as I could. I was sure that I looked out of place but I didn't really care at that second. I skidded around the corner and saw my classroom. I opened the door and hopped into my seat just as the bell rang. I wasn't late. Barely. It was a week after I found Addison in the street. Tanner had gotten out of the hospital quickly.
I was trying to become friends with Tanner and Addison, but I didn't want to be like a stalker. So I was staying away from them. I hadn't talked to Jesper, but with him being my father I wasn't sure what would happen if I actually met him. I didn't really want to find out.
I had gotten into the routine of school. In the morning, I would spar with Ryan. Then shower and a quite, wonderful, breakfast before heading to school. School as normal, a little homework or hike. Then I would study culture or do whatever needed to be done, then go for a run. It was a relaxing routine.
Once Seth wanted to join me on a run. At first I thought that it would be good, but he only lasted a slow five minutes. We didn't even get three blocks before he asked for us to stop. I realized that I would have to take it slow for the rest of my run. REALLY slow.
We barely made it to the forest before we had to turn back. It looked like he was running as fast as he could. I pretended to be a little out of breath for him. Once we got home, he said he liked me, but was never going on a run again. I agreed, for a while I thought we would have to stop in fear that his heart would quit. Once he was out of site, I went for another run.I smiled, everything was going well. I looked outside. There in the shadows was a man in a black suit and sunglasses. I frowned, except for him. He had been lurcking around. He had never approached me, but he would stalk either Tanner, Addison, Jesper, or me. It was creepy.
He stood under a tree for a while. Once he apparently knew that I had seen him, he turned and walked away. At first I thought that he was an assassin, but even an assassin from this time period would at least try to blend in. It felt like he wanted to be seen. I focused back on the class. I really needed to find out who he was. After school, I decided to walk through down town. It was a beautiful day. I leisurely walked by nearby shops and stores until I spotted my favorite ice cream and sandwich place.y stomach growled on que. I quickly stepped in side the parlor and was created by a faint sandwich and French like smell.
The shop was very quaint. It's walls were painted a soft blue. The brown furniture was accented nicely by the walls and the skylight helped everything feel natural and pleasant. Through some double doors to my left was a patio with a few umbrela tables.
I went up to the front desk and asked for my favorite sandwich and ice cream: a chicken and bacon sandwich and one scoop of dark cherry ice cream with one scoop of butter pecan. Yum.
Once I ordered I looked at the decorations on the walls. There were soft classical paintings as well as black and white photos. I heard french styles music quietly playing. It was very relaxing here. Once I got my food I headed out to the patio. As I went out the double doors, I saw him sitting at one of the tables. The man with the sunglasses. He gestured for me to sit.
I gingerly sat opposite of him, but kept my meal in my arms in case I had to run. Ryan wasn't a very good cooker and this meal was very precious to me. He nodded at me and began, "We don't have much time so I will say this quickly."
I remembered that people in books or movies said that. What was he trying to do? Ask me to help defend the whole world? That would be really cliche. Besides, I already had that job. He continued in an ominous voice, " They have spotted you. Don't use your gifts unless you have to, and try to make them think you are not powerful. I can't help you if they capture you so try and be in public settings. " He looked quickly around and continued, "Be careful. Good luck."
And with that, he got up and walked away. He turned to the left and continued up the street. I wondered what he meant. Who was going to capture me? Did they know my secret. That I was from the future? Or was it just that I was gifted?
I felt something wet dribbling down my hand. I looked down and realized my ice cream was melting. I quickly started eating it. But decided to save my sandwich for when I got home.Author's note; this cafe was based on one of the cafe's in my area and it is not completely my own idea. Thanks guys!
