A Wonderful Breakfast and A Goodbye

I woke up to the sound of breakfast. I couldn't smell our usual gruel( we had to eat synthetic food since the earth was scorched) which was a good sign. I got up and made myself presentable. I walked out of my room with a yawn. I looked to the table and saw everyone eating cereal. My eyes grew big as Ivan's fists as I realized what we were going to eat. Cereal was almost the only thing that wasn't synthetic. The cereal kept well, but after a while they got stale. We also had a little dried milk left to complete it.
I smiled and sat down with anticipation. I was the last one up, which didn't bother me. I started crunching on my food. After a few seconds, I realized that the rest of the room had grown quite. I looked up and saw Tanner smiling at me. I must have had something on my face. I quickly cleaned up my face with my sleeve.
He nodded like a tiger noddes to his cub, or something. Anyway, once I scrunched that down, I sat up and looked around. I noticed, for the first time, that Ryan wasn't here. I didn't ask, I knew if it was something important, I would learn later.
I got up from where I sat as Chief Tanner walked towards the exit. We all knew it was time to leave. He didn't tell us, but it seemed obvious.

We walked up on top of the cliff after we got our suits on. It was a beautiful morning. The sky was red with a small purple streak going through it. There was gold light around the red with the maroon sky encasing everything.
I saw that Ryan was already up here working on something. Tanner turned towards me and smiled. He grabbed a watch from his pocket and gave it to me. He said, "This is your time shifter, it will get you to the past, and back here when your done. You will have to keep it on you at all times. It has pressure pads and is LP."
I nodded, pressure pads helped make sure that if I ran into a wall, it wouldn't be crushed. LP is short for Life Proof. Which means it's water, dirt, wind, and basically anything you do proof.
Tanner continued, "Besides, it is much smaller than a car." He smiled a little at that, then looked at Jesper and nodded. Jesper came over and started to instruct me on how to use it. Which buttons to push, how to get back, etc.

Ryan and I stood on the cliff top facing the others. I couldn't stop fidgeting. Ryan leaned towards me and whispered, "Are you nervous?"
What kind of question was that? I was terrified.
I nodded. Chief Tanner walked up to us and smiled, "See you guys on the other side. Remember the rules. We won't remember any of this, but you will, so no spoilers. Try not to change the time stream too much, and try not to reference us to ourselves. Ryan, try not to meet yourself, it could become dangerous. Make us proud." And with that, he stepped out of the way.
Jesper stepped up to me to say good bye, and the rest of the team followed.
Once everyone said good luck and good bye, they stepped back and gave us some space. Ryan turned towards me and said, "Ready?" I nodded and adjusted my watch so I would go back in time. Ryan said, On three..... one.... two.....three" and with that we clicked our watches.
