Sunglasses and Some Horrible Assassins

I was walking downtown still thinking about what just happened in the store. I had so many unanswered questions for the guy with the sunglasses. I felt a hand on my shoulder and my body went into red alert. I grabbed the hand and twisted it into a wrist lock. I was about to break whoever hand it was when I saw Seth, and heard him yelp.

I immediately let go and stopped. He shook his hand and said, "Oww"
I said quickly, " Oh my gosh, I am so sorry."
He smiled painfully and replied, " Its fine, man, remind me not to sneak up on you."
I smiled apologetically and said, " So, What are ya doing here?"
I was finally getting some of the slang words down. He replied, "Well, I ran out of pencils, so I was going to go to the store, but I decided to get ice cream instead."
I nodded, the ice cream was delicious. He continued," I got my ice cream and as soon as I walked out I saw you."
He shrugged. At least he didn't see the man in the sunglasses. Seth said, " What are you doing here?"
I replied, "My house is a few blocks down, but Rya- my dad isn't a very good cook."
I almost said Ryan. I looked to see if Seth had noticed. He had. Dirt Stains On White Dress Pants! I yelled in my head. If I wasn't careful I might reveal something. My guard came down every time I was near Seth. What if he was apart of the Gifted and was working for the people that Sunglasses had told me about? I frowned, I hoped not, but I had better be alert.

Seth said, " Sooo, the store is on the way to your house, do you want some company?"
No, I am going to say no, block him off. I needed to clear my head and not let me guard slip. I replied, "Yeah sure, that would be great."
Agggg what was I thinking!?! Well, maybe a step back from my sunglass problem might be good. Great, I was rationalizing this.
Seth stopped my mental battle by saying, "Cool, so I haven't seen you around lately. What's up?"
I had been slightly avoiding him because my guard was down. My reflexes had become sloppy over the last week. Thankfully Ryan and I practiced every morning with exercise, so I was still in perfect shape, but now, with so many civilians, I had to always double check and make sure I didn't blow my cover by reacting to something that was normal in this day in age.
I realized that Seth was still waiting for my response so I said, "Been busy, just got allot of stuff going on."
Which was true. I had been very busy trying to fit in and keep my guard and skills up. Plus, trying to stay far enough from Tanner and Addison so I'm not a creeper, but staying close enough to protect them. I was trying to live two lives at once. The future warrior chick, and the regular girl just trying to fit in.
Seth said, "Oh, okay. Are you going to eat that?"
He was pointing at my sandwich. I said defensively, "Yes."
And hugged it to me like it was a precious jewel. Which, if you could eat jewels, it would be.
Seth laughed and said, "Okay, just checking. Cause, it looks delicious and I would hate for it to go to waste."
Yeah, I would hate to waste it on your precious stomach as well, I thought. Hmm, not very nice. I decided not to say that outloud. Instead we started talking about other things. Mostly what had happened since we last saw each other.

It was nice to walk and talk to someone. Ryan was pretty busy and I hadn't made many friends. I couldn't relate to anyone here. They would talked about popular trends or what happened to so and so. The girls kept talking about hot guys and nobody really seemed to care about what the future would look like. Since protecting the future was my job, almost everything I did was carefully calculated and was affected by it. Except for Seth. Almost everything I did around him was not calculated, and it was even rash and irresponsible.
We split ways when I was three blocks from my apartment. I kept walking but grabbed my sandwich and started eating it. The ice cream I had eaten had worn off and I didn't want to share with Ryan. I finished the heavenly thing quickly and stuffed the wrappings in a nearby garbage dumpster.
It was evening now and I really wanted to get back so I could go for a run. I turned a corner and saw two people in black hoodies headed towards me. I sensed that something was wrong and looked behind me. Two more hooded guys were behind me. A little obvious. We're they really that sloppy, or did they want me to know and cower in fear? Either way, I wasn't getting out of here without a fight.
I turned into an alleyway and started sprinting. Hopefully I could outrun them. I saw the street at the end of the ally. Before I got there, a mini van stopped in front of it and two more burly guys got out. I looked behind me to see that the others had followed me. I looked around. I had my battle suit on and as many weapons that I needed, but I didn't want to show them that I was from the future. If they didn't know, I would have the advantage.
In an overflowing trashcan, I saw a busted window frame. I ran over to it and ripped one of the long stick part. I quickly broke it in half on my knee. I grabbed one piece so the end was sticking out the front of my hand, and I reversed the other one in my other hand. Now I had two short daggers.
By now, the first hooded guy had gotten to me. He pulled out a gun and said, "Get in the van and you won't get hurt."
What a lame thing to say. Really, it was too much. I quickly side stepped and knocked his gun out of his hands, then proceeded to stick one of my makeshift daggers into his thigh. He cried in pain and fell over. I looked up to see the next guy running towards me. It was such a waste, each of them ran at different speeds and so they would get to me at different times. If they attacked together, I might not be able to hold them off, but they didn't do that.
I grabbed my dagger out of the dudes leg and threw it at the next attacker. He ducked just in time, but that gave me enough time to get close enough to punch him in the esophagus. He chocked and I thwacked him in the nose. He started crying and stumbling backwards. I turned around to see the third stupid attacker coming at me. He at least had the idea to grab his knife. I dropped my stick and put up my hands. When he got close enough, I slid my hands to the outside of the arm that held the knife. I grabbed his arm and turned around, bringing him into an arm lock.
I grabbed his knife and brought his arm, with him following, to the ground. Thankfully there was a crack in the pavement just where he fell. I moved his hand right on top of it and slammed the knife into the pavement crack, going through his hand in the processes. I tried to make sure that it wouldn't damage him permanently.
The last man pulled another gun. He cocked it back and it didn't sound right. I looked at it closely and realized that it was a squirt gun.
Wow, what a way to intimidate. I looked around nothing useful was close by. I ran at him in a dead sprint. I apparently had an intimidating face because he seemed to almost lose his nerve. He dropped the squirt gun and pulled out a real knife. I slowed down. I was pretty sure I could handle this guy, but it would be bad to get cocky. I looked up the alleyway to the too guys near the van, if they were not looking, I could grab some tech. Sadly, they were. I didn't have much time before the guys in the van decided to do something. I took a chance and grabbed a knife from my shoe. Hopefully the thought it would be a pocket knife. It buzzed to life as soon as I touched it. I jumped at my attacker and swiped at him. He backed up just in time and I only nicked him. Thankfully, my blade had some upgrades. As it made contact, it let out an electrical shock. He was stunned for a moment, I swiftly took that opportunity to punch the side of his neck. There was a very affective pressure point there that knocked him out. I smiled, I forgot how much fun this was. I hadn't given anyone a good thwacking in a while.
The other two guys were from the van. When I turned towards them, they started backing up. They looked at each other, then turned and got back in the van. I knew that the next time, there would be more men, and maybe actual weapons. Next time, they would be a problem. But for right now, it was fine. I put my knife away and walked home.
