I quickly ran up and tapped Tanner on the shoulder. He turned around. I gave him a piece of paper with an address on it. "Meet me here, after school." I told him.
He looked at the address and raised his eyebrows. He said, "Are you for real? A bar?"
I shrugged, "Its the safest place. If anyone overheard us, they will forget it since their drunk."
"I don't-how did you find-what-seriously? Are you like, from outer space or something? I mean, a bar?"
I rolled my eyes at him. "No, I'm from the future." I replied sarcastically, "Do you want answers or not?"
He exhaled sharply through his nose and looked back at the note.
"Fine, I'll be there," he said, shoving the note in his pocket.
"Good, see you there." And I walked off.
After I went down the hall a few steps, I saw Seth walking up to me. I smiled at him and said, "Hey, what's down?"
He frowned at me and said, "Whats down? What are you-"
I interrupted him, "Sorry, anyway, how are you?"
He shrugged, "Not much, but why are you hanging out with that troublemaker?"
I looked behind me, "Tanner, oh. I just, um, he needed some help with some stuff."
He raised his eyebrows and replied, "Really? Well, just be careful. He always gets himself hurt."
I snorted. Chief Tanner getting hurt? Who would have thought. I replied, "Sure, but that doesn't mean I'm gonna get hurt."
Seth looked at me with an expression that said oh-really.
I shrugged and walked off to my next class.I was walking towards the bar when Tanner caught up to me. It was kind of a crappy day. The clouds were ominously dark and rumbling. But for some reason, I was perfectly happy with it. Tanner stepped in line with me. I smiled at him. He raised his eyebrow and said, " I still don't know why we are going to a bar."
I just turned and opened the door to the bar for him. He looked at me all confused, then grabbed the door and shooed me in. The rancid smell of smoke burned my nose. The bar had a bunch of round tables around the room. On the far left side was one really long rectangular table. In front of me was a counter that separated the kitchen from everything else. There were a few scattered people around the bar. Most didn't look like a threat. There was a group of men in the corner who might be a threat. The leader had a beer in his hand and a cigarette in his mouth. His head was completely shaved and his muscles bulged from under his white stained t-shirt.
I picked a table in the opposite side of the room. I quickly picked the chair that faced the whole room. As we sat down, a kind looking woman in an apron came to us and asked, "What can I get you young lovebirds today?"
Tanner opened his mouth and lifted his finger to protest, but then looked at me, and just folded his arms. I said, "I will get a sweet tea. Please put it all on Ryan Smith's account."
She smiled and nodded. She looked at Tanner and asked, "What would you like today sir?"
Tanner said, with a little more Irish accent than usual, "I would like you Irish Shamrock Shake."
Which struck me funny. She just smiled again and left. As she was going into the kitchen, I saw the leader of the group walk over. Oh boy. When he got to us he folded his arms and said, "What are two youngens like you doing out here?"
I sighed and replied, "Listen, we don't want any trouble."
He snorted and said, "Well, you might get some if you do anything I don't like."
