7:30 am" I can't believe it. I will not eat from the cafeteria," I told Jackson as we entered school.
"If I get food poisoning, it's gonna be all her fault," replied Jackson as we broke off to go our separate ways, him still sulking over his eggs and bacon.
Let's go back to this morning.
" You guys are late. I said ten minutes, not eleven." Mom said with such serious face. " No food. Eat at school."
"Very funny mom. But like you said we gonna be late so where's breakfast?" asked Jackson.
"Nope, sorry. I said ten not eleven. If you're so worried about being late, then get going. Eat at school." replied my mom.
That's when I noticed the smoke coming from behind her.
"Don't tell me you did it again?!" I said while walking around her.
I walked up to the stove, and on the pan, I saw what I presumed was suppose to be eggs and bacon. They were burnt to a crisp. I backed away as the smell of burnt started suffocating me. I turned around to face my mom and she was giving me her innocent face. Jackson walked up next to me and saw the food and I swear I saw tears in his eyes. Don't go thinking that it was the smell or the smoke that caused him to get teary. No, it was that eggs and bacon are his favorite and my mom just burnt them. It was like the end of the world for him.
" Explain yourself, woman. How could you make them suffer like that. They could've been happy in my stomach but NOOOOO. You had to go and kill them! You murderer!" My brother reacted.
"Oh honey, I'm sorry. It just that I got distracted by something on tv and well by the time I came to my sense, they had gone to heaven," my mother replies shamefully.
"George Clooney again?" I asked.
" Well duh, that hunk of a man is soo dreamy." my mom fantasized.
" You do know you are married right?" Jackson replied while still looking at the burnt food.
" Oh yes yes. I know, but momma still got eyes," she said.
Weird. Weird is the first word that comes to mind when describing my family. I think I got the normal genes in this family. Everyone seems to be obsessed with something. I don't know what goes on in their minds. My mom is Clooney obsessed. My brother is food obsessed. My dad is work obsessed. And then there's me. The normal child.
Back at school.
I was minding my own business walking to my locker when next thing I know I'm on the floor with a heavy weight on my back.
"EEHH! Kurenai! You are not gonna believe this. Today is the best day ever. Guess why?! No, don't guess, I'll just tell you! I finally got my car today! Do you know what this means?! We can go out now without a chaperone. I feel so grown up! EEHH! Aren't you excited! Kurenai, why aren't you answering me?"
Say hello to another weirdo in my life. My best friend Katherine. She's a hyperactive person who has no sense of personal space. She's the best, though. She is dependable, trustworthy and always finds a way to put a smile on everyone's face. Though, she can be a little oblivious at times. Like right now. She hasn't noticed that she has my face shoved to the floor.
"Get off of me and maybe I would answer" was what I tried to say.
But what really came out was, "Gruut arff arf mer ern marber er werd aferf."
"Huh? I don't understand you. You have to speak more clearly," replied Katherine.
" Maybe she would if your fatass wasn't on top of her Kat," said Wes as he walked up to us.
Wes is my other best friend. Wes is like our guardian angel that is always looking out for us. He sometimes goes overboard, though. One minute he's best friend Wes and the next minute he's Father Wes. I have to remind him that I already have a dad sometimes.
"Did you just call me fat? I am not fat. Kurenai, am I heavy?" Katherine asks, still not getting off of me.
" Yers, ser cern yer gert erff erf mer?!" which translates into, "Yes, so can you get off of me?!"
"Again, you have to speak more clearly if you want people to understand you," said Katherine.
"Hahaha! Damn Kurenai, how you liking that floor? Hahahaha!"
"I think we came at the right time, Julian. Let me take a picture." snickered Maddy.
These two devils that just came are Julian and Maddy. My so-call other best friends. These two are mischevious and are to blame for every prank that goes on. They are...I guess you can say the troublemakers at school. Who made the power go out last week? They did. Who snuck into the principal's office and shaved his head while he was sleeping? They did. Who was behind us getting stranded during a class trip? They were. They might be troublesome but they are fun to be around with. And when it counts, they can put their trickster sides away and have a serious conversation with you. They know their limits.
"Okay, Katherine. I think you are suffocating Kurenai there," replied Julian still laughing his ass off.
"Oh my god. Kurenai, I'm sorry. Why didn't you say anything?" she asked as she helped me off the floor.
" I did. I just wasn't speaking clearly enough for you," I replied sarcastically.
I finally make it to my locker and get the things I need for first period. On my way to first period, Katherine kept apologizing even though I forgave her already. I have Honors English first period. I think God must hate me because he decided to give me English in the fucken morning. To make things worse, I have none of my friends in this class. Now, the worst part of English though is Mr. Steveson. Mr. Steveson is a cranky old man who should've been retired by now. He never misses a day of school or is late. If he isn't sleepy in class, he is screaming at us about how our generation is filled with morons with no ambition. Well Mr. Steveson, maybe we wouldn't be such morons if you'd actually teach us something! To my surprise, when I walk into 1st period, Mr. Steveson was nowhere to be seen. Has God finally answered my prayers? I take my seat and soon after the bell rings. First period has begun. After waiting ten minutes for Mr. Steveson to appear, the class finally accepted the fact that he was not coming. You know what happened next? Hell broke loose. Kids got up and moved around. The room was filled with people talking and laughing. Others were throwing papers across the room. What did I do? I took out my earphones and started listening to music like a normal person, unlike my classmates who are secretly crazed monkeys.
Halfway through first period, the door opened and entered the principal and some man with him. I'm not sure how it happened but the class went back to normal as if they weren't just running around like maniacs. Did the principal notice? No. Devils to angels in just mere seconds.
"Goodmorning class," said our principal, Mr. Dickonson. " As you've noticed, Mr. Steveson won't be coming in today. Actually, he has decided to retire. Here with me is your new teacher for the rest of the school year. I'll leave you guys for he can introduce himself. Don't cause him any trouble."
And with that, the principal exits the room. Our new teacher walks to the front desks and takes a sit lifting his feet onto the desk. He seems pretty young for a teacher. As he scans the room, his eyes fall upon me and I swear I saw a flash of recognization in his eyes. It's strange because as he kept staring I got the feeling that I know him. He moved his eyes from me and finished scanning the room. He finally decides to speak.
"My names Mr. Adam Danzy. You can call me Mr. Adam or Mr. A. But, never call me Mr. Danzy. That's my father's name, not mine. Yes, I know I look quite young to be a teacher, but no I will not tell you my age. I know I'm handsome but please try not to get distracted while I'm teaching," he proclaims, finishing off with a wink.
Great. It went from a cranky old man to a conceited egoistic bastard as my teacher. What an amazing surprise to finish off the year with.
A laugh shocks me out of my thoughts. "A conceited, egoistic bastard, you say? Wow, that's the second time I've heard someone say that to me. I think you are mistaken, though. What you call conceited and egoistic, I call confidence and pride," he says while still laughing .
With my eyes wide open, I realized I said my thought out loud. Way to go me. With a groan, I sink into my chair just staring at the man still laughing. Add him to the list of weirdos in my life.
