*Bailey's point of view*
My hand quickly reached out to stop the annoying blaring noise that was coming from my alarm clock. Slowly sitting up, I let my eyes adjust to the light pouring in through my windows. Rubbing the sleep away, I slung my leg over the side of the bed and began to drag my feet towards my bathroom. Lucky for me I had my own.
Flicking the light switch on, I slowly started running my brush through my brown hair. My mind wondered as I continued to freshen up. Today was the first day of my last year of high school. I didn't exactly know how I felt about it at this point. I mean I had a plan for college, I practically already knew where I was going. Still though, you never know how much can change in a year.
After cleaning my face and putting on makeup, I walked back out into my bedroom. Being that it was the first day of school, I was obligated to look decent. I threw a black tank top over my head and covered it with a shear maroon button up shirt. Because it was September it was slightly chilly outside, so I put on a par of skinny jeans. On my feet I wore simple black flats.
Gathering my new school supplies into my bag, I started to make my way downstairs.
" 'Morning mom," I said as I entered the kitchen.
"Good morning Sweet-heart! You look lovely today. Are you excited for your first day of Senior year?" She asked turning away from the stove to look at me.
"As excited as I'll ever be," I said putting on a fake smile, "It's still school."
"Yes, but now you're the "big dog" as they call it. No one will mess with you this year. Not that anyone did before," She turned back to the stove, "Sit down at the counter, your eggs will be ready in a minute."
I turned and sat down at the counter across from my mom, pulling out my phone. I texted my long time friend, Caroline, asking her when she would be here to pick me up. She quickly replied saying that she would be here in five. When I looked up from my phone I saw a plate of freshly cooked eggs sitting in front of me.
This was something that I was used to. Although I was an only child, my mother was a stay at home mom. She would occasionally sell paintings to make money, but we never had to worry about it with my dad around. He was a head surgeon at the top hospital in New York. To be honest, I don't see him very much. He goes in early and gets home late. When he's home on the weekends, I'm out with friends. I love my dad, but not like I love my mom.
I quickly downed my eggs and brought the plate to the sink, washing it off. Giving my mother a kiss on the cheek, I made my way out of the house.
Caroline soon pulled up and I jogged over to the passenger seat of her car.
"Get in loser," She said as I sat down.
Before I could say anything else she turned the volume up, blasting Demi Lovato.
The ride was like this the rest of the way. When you're friends with someone for eight years, you learn that you don't always need to talk.
Turning into the school parking lot, I sighed at the fact that I was going to have to deal with this place for another year. Maybe I was excited for college.
Out of nowhere Caroline slammed hard on her brakes and smashed the car horn.
"Watch were you're going asshole!" She yelled even though the person couldn't hear her while she was in the car.
I looked up in front of us and saw a boy I had never seen before. His blond hair stuck up and out of his face. He wore practically all black all the way down to his boots. Between the notable tattoos and lip piercing, I knew that this was someone that you did not want to mess with. Or at least I didn't want to. I will admit though that he had gorgeous blue eyes. To bad they were wasted on him.
After what seemed like a lifetime, he broke eye contact and kept walking toward the school, tightening his grip on his bag.
"Finally," Caroline huffed, "Who invited the freak show?"
"I don't know," I said as we pulled into a parking space, "But how much you wanna bet he reeks of cigarette smoke?"
Caroline laughed at this and turned to get her bag from the back seat, "You look nice today."
"Thanks," I said, "but this is a one day thing. You look nice too, and you will consecutively look nice for the rest of the school year."
Caroline was what most teenage girls wanted to be, and what most teenage boys want to be inside of. She was tall, blonde hair, blue eyes, and because she was a dancer, had a body that girls would kill for. No wonder she was known as the most popular girl in our high school. This makes me popular by default.
We had a group. Caroline and her boyfriend Derek have been dating for two years, and are openly known to be the most praised couple in our school. Of course, Derek is the star quarter back of the football team and is dreamed about by 99% of the girls at my school. The extra 1% is me. I think he's a douche, but I will say that him and Caroline are a match made in the high school heavens. Clare is a bitch. Straightforward, not even going to sugar coat. Apparently, since she's from Hawaii she's better than everyone else. But she's Carolines friend so I pretend to be "Besties" with her. Gregory is the last one that makes up our group. He's one of Derek's close friends and seems to tag along a lot whenever we go out. He's not terrible, but he has the IQ of a peanut.
So all in all I hang out with a bunch of jerks that are full of themselves. Let me explain though. I try, I really do, to not be like them. But everyone agrees that it's easier to just go along with it than to not be the target. When I became friends with Caroline I never knew she would turn into this. I never knew I would turn into this. Because when I sit down and really think about it, I'm just as bad as them. But it's just because I know the things that they say, and I don't want them to say it about me. So I go with it.
So that's it; I'm Bailey Temple and I hate what high school has made me.
