Chapter 61

Hailees POV

"I'm so sorry Cam. This would have never happened if it weren't for me." I said touching his hand. He was still unconscious and it's been a few hours.

I sat in his hospital room alone since it's one person at a time until someone opened he door.

"Miss were going to ask you a few questions about the incident if you will?" Said the officer at the door.

"Uh sure." I said getting up. We walked to the hospital cafeteria that was pretty creepy. No one was there. One of the officers locked the double doors and the other sat down with me.

"So when the call came in, the young man uh-"

"Hayes." I answered for him.

"Yes Hayes, he said it was a hit and run correct?" The officer finished.

"It had to be. For starters, no car would swerve into the opposite lane for no apparent reason." I answered.

"Do you happen to know how the person in the car looked like, or his motives for hitting your friends car like revenge or something along those lines?"

"It was Axel( a/n I don't know if I gave him a last name already so if I did he's getting a new one) King. He's a drug dealer, has guns, does illegal things. I don't know where he lives but by now he could be long gone. He did it because- because it was my fault." I said starting to cry.

"It's okay continue." The officer said kindly.

"He wanted me to rob a home with him, he tried giving me a gun and I refused. I ran away and ever since I said no, he was sending me threats. I wanted to call the police but they said there as no evidence of what he was doing. He's been out to get me and I guess he was trying to kill me." I said tears rolling down my face.

"Thank you for your time miss. We promise we will bring your friend to justice okay?" The officer said and we got up to leave.

I went back up to Cameron's floor when I saw a doctor crowded around my mom, Matt, Lindsi, Nash, Hayes, and Ashley.

"Uh what's going on?" I said the panic in my voice rising.

"I'm regret to tell you this but, your friend has died." The doctor said frowning.

This isn't real. No I'm dreaming.

"You're lying." I said the tears forming on my face.

"Unfortunately I'm not. Sorry for your loss. You can say your goodbyes now." The doctor said walking away.

A Week Later

Funeral Day

10:30 am

"This is all my fault Hayes." I cried.

"No no it's not. It was out of your control." He said hugging me tightly.

It was my turn to speak on Cam's behalf so I got up and walked towards the podium. I had nothing prepared, no notes, nothing. It was just coming naturally.

"I really don't know how to start this but Cameron was like a big brother to me. He'd make me laugh, take me places, I would do anything for him to come back. This journey we've shared for the last year was amazing. I did so many things and I owe it up to him. I just wish life turned out differently. Everything happens for a reason and it was his time. For now, thanks Cameron. I love you brother."

Hayes stood next to me with a what? An alarm clock?

"Um Hailee time to wake up!" He yelled shaking my arm.

"Wait what?" I yawned. My eyes cleared and it revealed my mom standing over me.

"Hailee I've been calling your name for the last 20 minutes! The school starts in ten!" My mom said shaking me.

"It was a dream?" I gasped. No it couldn't have been.

"I don't have time for this. You've been sleeping since 7:30 last night! Get up now!" She yanked the sheets off of me.

I still couldn't believe what I was hearing.

"Mom, random question but are you sure that this isn't a dream?" I said pinching my arms.

"I think I'm pretty sane enough to know whether I'm awake or not." She said rolling her eyes.

"Jesus, dream mom was nicer." I mumbled.

"What was that?"

"Nothin."

I grabbed my book bag off the bed and went downstairs to text Hayes- I mean walk to school. It took me about 15 minutes nothing major. Once I arrived I sat next to my best friend Katie in homeroom and we waited for the teacher.

"Hello class welcome back from Spring Break! We have a new student here, sir introduce yourself." The teacher bellowed.

"Uh my name is Hayes Grier. I was at a new school and now I'm here." He said looking around the room.

Could this day get any weirder?

"Thank you for that lovely presentation." The teacher said rolling her eyes. "Sit between Katie and Hailee please."

He sat down and smiled at me.

"Hey." I smiled.

"Hi, you're Hailee right?"  He said.

"Yup that's me." I said.

"Hey uh Hayes, is it weird that I feel like I've met you in like a past life or something?" I ask.

He laughed. "I guess that's real. I don't think it's weird. Why do you think you've met me before?"

"Oh nothing." I half smiled.

Oh if only he knew.

This was fun since I like writing, I never knew this would get like almost 20k like it's pretty cool. I know I say like a lot.
