------------------------>-third person pov-
Matthew looked up at Alfred, who was giving him a soft smile. He was worried? Why would Alfred ever worry about Matthew? I mean, sure, the events that took place the day before were a bit...much...but that doesn't mean he needs to worry about the Canadian...right?
As they walked to their lockers together Matthew kept pretty quiet, not really wanting to bring up anything. But Alfred, he had a lot to talk about. "Did you get the paper?", he asked Matthew as he put some stuff away. The shorter blond gave a small nod. It took him a moment to actually speak,"...I'm um..I'm sorry about yesterday Al", he said looking to the floor. Alfred turned towards him and smiled softly,"it's ok..but uh..I need to talk to you at lunch Ok?". Matthew looked up at the blonde. He remembered Arthur would probably sit with them. He wasn't ready to just let Arthur know about all this. "But Arthur-" "Arthur isn't here today, remember? Don't worry", Alfred said cutting off Matthew. The Canadian's eyes blinked a few times before he sighed softly,"oh...right..okay..", he said putting some hair behind his ear. He then remembered not seeing Arthur in math.
Alfred gave a reassuring nod. Since the bell would ring soon they walked to their next class.
-time skip to lunch bc imlazy ;-; -
Matthew didn't even get food, he went straight towards the tree they had sat under the day before. Mainly so he could have time to think about what to say. He knew Alfred would want to know about what happened yesterday. Speaking of which, Matthew still wondered where his dad was. Not like he really cared but still, it was odd. He sighed quietly. Maybe his father just..left. For good. Or it could be like the time when he was thirteen. When out of the blue he was gone and came back a few days..or maybe weeks later.
Either way, he was gone. For how long, he didn't know, but all he cared was that he was gone.
Soon he heard the faint sound of foot steps and crunching leaves. He turned a bit to see Alfred walking toward him with his backpack and his lunch. Matthew looked up and waved slightly before facing forward. To be quite honest, he was scared to talk to Alfred about these things. Not because of what he might think of him, but of what he might suggest he should do. Like running away, moving, living with a family member, friend....Alfred.
No.
What was he thinking. He can't live with Alfred. What kind of thought was that? That's absurd. Gosh he's so stupid. Alfred would never let-"Matthew?"
"Huh?", Matthew shook his head out of his thoughts. "S-sorry. What did you say?", he asked shyly and faced Alfred who was right next to him. Alfred was lost in a small gaze. He had a split second to look at matthew. He noticed a bruise. And he could see the cover up. He made a small frown but wen back to smiling softly. "I just wanted to ask...what um..what happened?", he asked referring to the night before.
Matthew froze for a second. He knew what the other meant. He also knew that if he said nothing happened, Alfred wouldn't fall for it. So might as well tell him.
He took in a deep breath. "Well..my um..m-my dad. He hit me..and stuff. But I-I'm Ok. Really." He looked away when he said it. He almost felt ashamed even though he didn't need to be.
Next thing he knew Alfred had his face in front of him. His eyes were wide. "W-what?", Matthew asked. "What did he do to you?", Alfred asked. He knew he shouldn't ask but Matthew is his friend. He couldn't help but worry.
"He kicked...punched. Beat me. But I'm ok. Trust me.", Matthew said trying to reassure Alfred. "Besides...
He's not even there anymore."
