Ella ran through the woods with her pack. Victoria was beside her. Ella wondered what the young woman was thinking. John Ethel, in the front, guided the pack to a river. Mr. Rook was to the left of John. The river wasn't blue, but Ella couldn't tell what color it was. The clouds had covered the moon, so it just looked dark.
First, John Ethel dove into the pond. He was under for a long time. Ella wondered how long he had been under, holding his breath. The pack was in a line on the edge of the river, panting over. Waiting. For something. Or someone.
My father stared into the river, deep in the liquid. He seemed to be a polar bear waiting for a seal to take a breath of air, staring into the large stream.
Ella trudged over to her dad. "Father?" Ella asked, nudging him with her head. He ignored her. He didn't even acknowledge his only daughter was next to him. He didn't even look up or look into the corner of his eye.
Suddenly, John Ethel jumped out of the river. Even though it had to be deep enough for him to dive in, he'd have to stand in the water to make a jump like he had. He was in his human form, standing on the side of the river. Liquid dripped from him, from the river.
Just then, the clouds parted, freeing the moon's glow. It shone on John Ethel. Shone on his body, his whole body. The light glowed on him. You could even see the expression on his face. Stony and cold. He looked as if he was staring into something far off into the distance.
Ella gasped, which came out as a growl. The water from the river was red and runny. She immediately realized what liquid was in the river. Blood. All blood. No river water, no mud. Just blood. She screamed, which came out as a deeper growl than the last one.
Until now, Ella had forgotten the whole pack was there. They stared at her, cold wolf eyes digging into her. Suddenly, Victoria pounced at her, no reason known.
But, everything started to fade. But Ella still heard John Ethel's words, "The River of power. The blood. Power."
