The school bell rang, for school was over. Teenagers filed out of the class and outside to the campus grounds. Some people stayed in the building, going into different club rooms. The Chess Club, Math Club, Physics Club... The list seemed to go on forever. Some teens stayed out on the lawn, talking to friends, studying, listening to music.
But a lot of kids went on the bus home. Home. What a nice word after a long day of learning. Ella walked home from school, because she was close. But Melanie had to ride the bus.
At her high school, riding the bus was a part of life that made you tough. At Melanie's high school, it was a place that you got used to the noise. Used to the shouts and bursts of laughter. Even used to the driver yelling "Shut up!"
Melanie trudged up the steps of the yellow bus. She sighed and chose Seat 10, which was in the middle of the bus. No one sat there, because a boy named Lucas Art sat there. Lucas Art was really weird. He never brushed his red hair, which was always messy, and his thick glasses were crooked and were covered in scratches. Lucas also seemed to have never heard of deodorant.
So, with all of the other seats crammed with teens, Melanie reluctantly plotted down on the leather thing. Lucas turned his head and gave a weird smile. "Hello!" he said in a funny voice. He immediately hugged her, wrapping his arms around her. Melanie shook free from the weak tennager.
She held her nose and coughed. Melanie had had a rough day, so she didn't care about being rude. "Get off of me, creep!"
Lucas's smile faded into a scrambled frown. "I'm not a creep!" he shouted loudly. He seemed to have anger problems, because after he said that, he shoved Melanie lightly. Lucas wasn't strong enough to push her off the seat.
Melanie made a shocked face. "Excuse me?" she asked, trying to act like the popular teenagers on TV. She put her hands on his hips, still sitting in her seat.
Lucas raised his eyebrows and scoffed. "Excuse me!" he mocked, trying to sound girly like Melanie. Everyone had now stopped their conversations and was watching Melanie and Lucas, some having no clue what was going on.
Melanie felt her eyebrows curl and her fists clench with rage. "Stop it!" she said, losing the act. "Stop it, stop it, stop it!" she continued.
Lucas realized this was his chance to act cool. To prove to everyone else he wasn't weird. "Whatever, loser."
It was the way Lucas said loser that made Melanie scream. She shrieked. No one had ever seen Melanie scream. In fact, no one has even noticed Melanie, except for the teachers.
Crazed with anger, Melanie jumped up from the seat. Suddenly, she grew fur. Wolf fur. She heard a girl say, "cool!" and a few boys gasp. Melanie's delicate hands were replaced with unkept claws. Her neat hairdo was replaced with silky but scary looking curls. Even her clothes ripped apart a bit, only a few tears in her shirt, skirt, and leggings.
Every teen on the bus screamed. Yes, it didn't make sense, but Melanie was a werewolf.
