While walking to school, Ella saw Ms. Month. The old lady was weeding her flower plant. This is my chance to make her think I'm normal! Ella thought, smiling as she skipped over to Ms. Month.
She checked her watch. 7:29 AM. Ella forced herself to wear a shy smile as she came over to Cory's mother. As she walked, Ella's short hair in the front flew in her face, so she tucked the strands behind her ears. I can't blow this! Ella thought, taking a deep breath.
"Good morning, Ms. Month!" Ella called, smiling. She bravely walked over to the aging woman. When she was about two yards away from the Ms. Month, she stopped, holding her hands together in front of her.
Ms. Month did not share the grin. "Hello, Ella Rook," she replied in a monotone voice. She sat up and took her gardening gloves of, setting them on the ground. They were covered with soil and had small holes, telling anyone to see that the gloves were well loved.
Ella pursed her lips. "Has Cory been acting differently?" Ella asked, braking the short but awkward silence.
Ms. Month's eyes widened a bit. "Cory has been acting differently?" she asked, a rhetorical question.
Ella knew she was not supposed to answer Ms. Month, but she did anyways. "Well, no.." she started, twirling her hair nervously. "I was just bringing up a subject."
Ms. Month eyes squinted as they stared at Ella, digging into her. For Ella, it felt as if ice was drilling into her heart, crunching into her deeper and deeper. "Go," she whispered coldly. Ella was too full of fear to move. Ms. Month then pointed her index finger at Ella, it quivering a bit. Ella couldn't tell if Ms. month was angry or afraid. "Go!" she repeated louder.
Ella made a face that said sheesh and walked away. Once on the sidewalk, Ella continued her stroll to school. At 7:37, she arrived at the high school. Teenagers were hanging out on the campus grounds, most on their phones.
Ella saw Melanie sitting on the freshly cut grass reading The Hunger Games.
Ella smiles and walks over. "You enjoying it?" Ella asked, grinning. Ella had only seen the first movie and read the first book, which she thought was better than the film.
Melanie looked up from her book. "I'm at the part where Katniss gets the Tracker Jacker nest onto the people!" she informed Ella excitedly. Melanie had a look of glee on her face.
Ella shook her head and smiled. She remembered what happened afterwards. Poor Glimmer, she thought to herself.
After a while about talking about books, the bell rang. Bring! it rang. Ella waved goodbye to Melanie. Her friend smiled in reply. The two left for first period, Ella thinking about math and Melanie thinking about history. Meanwhile, Ms. Month was thinking about Cory, who she thought he was the werewolf!
