Zombie and Degree were much more than what Undyne had described. Degree was grumpy but had a soft side for Zombie whom was not completely useless. She could draw and paint, Degree could too. Zombie also knew what it was to fight but preferred not to. She only used her powers when she was frustrated or stressed out.
It wasn't long before it got dark and Degree got tired. "Okay skin sack, bed time." She mumbled while picking up Frisk. Holding them like a baby. "Sleep in here, Zombie and I never sleep in here anyways." Degree said in an almost sweet tone. A hum reaching her lips as she said Zombie's name.
Degree lay Frisk down annoyed and sat on the side of the bed. "Can we be friends please? It would be a lot easier if we were." Frisk said as Degree wiped her hands on the blanket. "Sure. If you promise... You know what it doesn't even matter. I'm not. Don't bother asking again." Degree persisted. Frisk took her claw and pouted. "No." Degree continued. Frisk poked Degree on the nose and smiled. "Gee you sure are nosy." Degree said with a serious grin. Frisk laughed and Degree chuckled in a low familiar tone.
"Alright, I'm out of here. Also don't get comfortable. You're leaving first thing tomorrow." Degree blurted while getting up.
She closed the door behind herself and lit a cigar after leaving.
Frisk slept for a short bit but awoke again from the sound of someone snoring.
They walked down the stairs and into the living room where Degree and Zombie were sleeping on the hammock. Degree was sleeping with her arms slung over the side of the hammock and Zombie slept on Degree's back. Her large poofy jumper acting as a blanket for Degree.
Frisk poked Zombie and jumped as her eyes opened immediately. "Sorry if Degree is keeping you awake." She whispered. Frisk shrugged and smiled. "Cmon I'll take you for a walk to tire you out a bit more."
Zombie sighed while hopping out of the bed. Frisk asked why Zombie wasn't sleeping.
"Oh, I get really bad head aches and sometimes I have nightmares. That's why I don't sleep much."
Frisk nodded and stood by he door. Zombie walked over and opened it. "Sorry Degree isn't one for friends."
Zombie sighed while walking.
"But she really is nice. And she's trying you can see it."
She continued. Frisk chuckled and tugged at Zombie's sleeve.
"You two a thing?"
They asked nosily. Zombie scoffed in looked away disgusted.
"No! I don't even... Never mind. She's more like a sister, or a smelly old man that I live with, you walnut." Frisk laughed and took Zombie's hand.
"Why doesn't Sans like you?"
Frisk asked after a period of silence. Zombie looked down and sighed.
"It's... A long story."
Zombie looked down at her hands. "What about Undyne?" Zombie looked back up and scratched the back of her skull. "Well, I'll let Degree explain that. But if you really wanna know just check the closet in the bedroom. Degree can hear the sound of that creaky hinge from across the underground."
Frisk nodded and looked over to one of the trees. A bone was rammed into its side.
"That was me." Zombie chuckled embarrassed. Frisk smiled and yawned.
"Tired?" Zombie asked while picking up the tiny human. She was strong considering her short state.
Zombie carried Frisk back to her house and walked in slowly. The smell of paint and cigar smoke filling their noses.
"Come." Zombie whispered while crawling onto the hammock. Puffing her sweater out to fit snugly over Degree. Frisk crawled onto the couch and jumped onto the hammock. Zombie picked them back up and squished Frisk between her and Degree, their body sinking into Zombie's chest cavity.
Zombie closed her eyes and made no sound. No snores nor any breath. Frisk knew she was still awake and rolled away. Degree sniffled and rolled towards the other two. Wrapping them both under her smelly arm. Frisk plucked at the spared yellow and orange feathers on Degree's elbow before falling asleep.
