Nic's POV
"Knock, knock!" I heard behind me.
I turned around in my chair and smiled, "Hey, baby. What are you doing here?"
Josie walked into my office and I pulled her onto my lap. "Well, Luke asked me to come see him and I figured I'd stop by and say hi before I go up there."
I kissed her cheek, "I'm glad you did. I've been missing you."
"Awh." She cooed, fluffing up my quiff with her fingers. "I've been missing you too."
"It's been way too long."
She rolled her eyes, "Nic, I saw you three days ago."
"Oh." I sighed, "I guess so. But that seems like so long when you spent most of last week with me."
"Nic? I wanted to ask you something but I'm scared I'll be stepping on some toes."
I shrugged, "Whatever it is I'm sure you won't be. What is it?"
"Um, so since my dad came to see me, he's stopped putting money into my account and in a couple of months I'll be running so low on money I'm afraid I won't be able to make rent so I was wondering if I could maybe do some work at your house like clean and take care of Addie and stuff maybe for some extra cash or something I don't know."
"Baby." I cut off her rambling. "How about when the time comes I'll just pay your rent."
Her face scrunched up and she shook her head, "I won't let you just pay my rent for me, Nic."
"Why not?"
"Because it's not yours to 'just pay'. It's my rent. I have to work for the money."
"Jos, your dad disowned you. This is the least I can do."
"No." She shook her head again, "The least you can do is love me and give a me a kiss every now and then. I'm not gonna let you pay my rent for me."
I chuckled, "Fine then. Move in."
Her eyes went wide. "What?"
"Move in. You're at my house all the time anyway. Addie loves you. I know I love you. And it solves your rent problem because you won't have a rent to pay."
"That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard you say, Nic! That's invading on your life and your privacy."
"What privacy?" I shrugged. "I have a six year old daughter. Privacy went out the window years ago. She sits in the bathroom when I shower, Jos."
"But-"
"No." I covered her hands with mine. "It's settled. You can move in whenever you're ready, but you're not allowed to pay any more rent. I'll cover the costs that you have to pay to break lease."
"Nic-"
"No, Jos. Please, just move in. It'll be fine."
She sighed and kissed my forehead. "Thank you." She mumbled.
"You're welcome."
She sighed again.
"Oh, come on, Jos. This will be good for all of us. Especially Addie I think. She absolutely adores you. She was asking about you at dinner last night."
"Was she really?"
I nodded, "Yea, she likes having you around. Mostly because you play dolls with her, but she's very fond of you, Jos."
"Well let her know I'm quite fond of her too."
I smiled, "You can tell her yourself when she wakes up."
"What?" She questioned. I pointed to the corner of the room and she gasped. "Why is she not in school?"
I shrugged, "She wasn't feeling well and didn't want to go to school."
Josie chuckled, "I think it's sweet you brought her to work with you."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah, she's proud of her daddy."
"Are you proud of her daddy?"
She smiled and kissed my lips. "Oh, very much so." She looked at the clock and stood up. "I better get to Luke's office. He's expecting me soon."
"Alright, baby. I love you."
"Love you too."
She left my office and I went back to sending out bonus emails. It's almost Christmas, which means time at the office will be cut short next week and I'm behind.
"Hey, Ads." I nudged Addie awake.
"Is it time to go home?" She asked sleepily.
"It is. How are you feeling?"
"Better." She sighed.
"Good. Come on."
She sat up as I collected her things.
"Hey, Daddy? When is Josie gonna come over again?" She slid on her coat and zipped it up.
"Well, actually, I have some exciting news. Josie is going to move in with us."
Her face lit up, "Really? When Daddy?"
"I don't know yet, but soon. Is that something that is okay with you?"
Ads nodded, "Yes! That means we can play every day!"
I chuckled, "That's right, you can."
We closed up my office and headed to the elevator.
"Where is she going to sleep?"
"Well, I assume with me, but I guess we could ask her."
"But there won't be room for her clothes in your closet, Daddy. You have too many suits."
I laughed, "That is very true, princess. Where do you think I should put all of those suits?"
"You need a bigger closet is all so that Josie can have clothes in there too." She gasped. "Oooh, Daddy! Do you think she has pretty dresses?"
"I bet she has a few."
Addie smiled and skipped into the elevator. "I like Josie."
"I do too, princess. I do too."
There was a light on in the kitchen when we pulled up to the house. I smiled and reached into the back seat to wake up Addie.
"Baby girl, we're home. And I think somebody else is too."
She sat up and looked at the house. "Who is it, Daddy?"
I shrugged, "I don't know. How about we go find out?"
She climbed out and ran up to the door. I followed her inside.
"Hello?" She called out.
"Addie!"
I chuckled as I saw the boxes in the living room. That didn't take long.
Addie ran into the kitchen squealing. "Josie!"
As I stepped in, Josie was spinning Addie around. "Hi."
She stopped and met my gaze. "Hi."
"You're here."
She nodded. "I am. I talked with my roommates at lunch time and by the time I got home they'd packed up my stuff, insisting I shouldn't let you and Addie slip away. They all drove me here and I used the key from last week to let myself in. I hope that's okay."
I smiled and walked over to where she stood. I kissed her cheek. "Of course it's okay. Welcome."
"Hey, Josie?" Addie tapped her shoulder. "I was talking to Daddy and we wanted to know where you're going to sleep."
"Well, I figured I'd sleep with your dad. Is that okay?"
Addie smiled, "That's what Daddy said! But I have a problem?"
"Yeah? What's that?" Josie asked.
"Where will your clothes go? Daddy has too many suits in his closet for you to have clothes in there."
Josie chuckled and walked them out of the kitchen. I listened as they made their way up the stairs. "Well, I was thinking we could use the closet in the empty room for all of those suits."
"Do you have dresses, Josie? Those could go with Daddy's suits."
"Oh, you're right. Well, would you like to help with that?"
"Yea! This will be fun! I'm glad you're here, Josie!"
"I am too, babe."
Later that night after I put Addie in bed, Josie used my car to run to the store for a few things; which reminded me that she's going to need a rental car. I looked up good prices and then decided to unpack a few boxes for her.
I had to make room in my drawers but she didn't have a lot to begin with.
"Nic!" I heard her call from the kitchen.
I ran down the steps. "Hey, babe."
"Hi. Um, I got a few extra things at the store." She held up both hands, both full of bags.
I chuckled, "That's quite alright. What'd you get?"
I watched as she explained what she got and put away some food items.
"Nic?" Her voice pulled me from my thoughts.
"Yeah?"
"Are you okay?"
I nodded, "Yeah, of course. I just think too hard sometimes. But I'm just really glad that you're here right now. I know we just got back together, but you fit perfectly here, with us."
Josie smiled and walked up next to me and wrapped her arms around my waist. "I don't care that we've only been back together for a couple weeks, all I care about is you and Addie and that we're happy."
"Addie made you something before she went to bed." I pulled the piece of paper from my back pocket. "She wouldn't let me look at it but she wanted me to give it to you when you got home."
She took it and opened it. "Awwh. Nic, look!" When she turned it around, I immediately smiled. "It's the three of us in front of the house with Jester."
"That's very cute." I pointed to the figures off to the side. "That's my parents and the lads, Luke, Cade and Ed."
"This is adorable."
"She's quite the little artist."
"Yes she is." She walked to the fridge and used a magnet to put it on the front. "There."
"Perfect." I sighed.
"Yes it is."
"I wasn't talking about the picture."
Josie turned. Her face was red, flushed.
"I was talking about you."
"Nic-"
"Don't try to argue with me love. You'll lose. Come on. Let's go to bed."
Josie laughed and we headed up the stairs for the night.
Josie's POV
The next morning was hectic trying to get Addie ready for school. She tried claiming she was sick again but she didn't have a fever so she had to go.
When Nic dropped me off at Sam's building, he kissed my cheek and I headed inside.
"Good morning, Josie." A voice caught me off guard.
I looked up to see Sam walking in beside me. "Oh, good morning. How are you, Sam?"
"I'm well. I see Nic dropped you off."
"Uh, yeah."
"He seems to be doing that a lot. Is there anything you want to tell me?" He asked as we scanned our badges and walked in.
"Um." I didn't know what he wanted to hear.
"You might as well just tell me." Sam said as we both stepped onto the elevator.
"Okay fine. I moved in with him yesterday. My dad disowned me and now I'm going to run low on money in a couple of months. Nic insisted moving in with me would be the best option."
"Oh. Well I think he's right."
I looked up at him surprised. "Really?"
"Yeah."
"You're not upset that I'm living with him?"
He shook his head, "No. Why would I be?"
"Because there aren't supposed to be inter-work relationships."
Sam chuckled as the elevator dinged at my floor. "Josie, he's Luke's vice-president, he doesn't really work directly for me. It's not a huge deal. Just don't let it distract your work, okay?"
"Okay. Thank you Sam. Have a good day."
"You too, Josie."
I stepped off the elevator and headed to my office. As soon as I sat down at my desk I picked up the phone and dialed Nic's office. He should be there by now.
"Hello?"
"Nic."
"Hey, babe. Did you forget something in the car?"
"No. I just talked to Sam though. I told him I moved in with you."
"Oh! That's great, babe! Thanks for doing that for me!" He chuckled. "I wasn't sure when I'd see him next."
"That's it? You weren't worried about his policy?"
"Nope. Cause I know that Luke could care less honestly."
"I was terrified, Nic!"
"Ah, love. Don't be. We're all pretty relaxed on that rule."
"Okay. Fine."
"Seriously, love. Don't fret. I love you."
"I love you too."
Nic's POV
As soon as I hung up after Josie's call, my phone rang again.
"Hello?"
"Do you ever check your caller ID?"
I laughed. "Hello, Sam. And no, I don't."
"Well you should. Anyway, I just spoke with Miss Williams. She tells me she moved into your house yesterday."
"Yeah, she did."
"How did that come about exactly? I mean, she tried telling me but she rambled on a bit. It was hard to follow."
"Her father came to Dublin last week and showed up at my house. He had a warrant for her arrest because apparently two years ago when you hired her she ran off without warning anybody and borrowed money to move to LA. He said she had to go home with her or pay him his money back. I paid it for her and the next day he informed her that he disowned her and cut off her money supply. She asked if I'd pay her to do housework but I told she might as well just move in and let me help her. We fought a bit but she gave in and she was at the house last night with her stuff."
"Wow, mate that's insane."
"Yeah. A bit. But both Addie and I love having her around and I don't want to see her struggling."
"Nic, I just don't want you to be so attached that we have problems come March. She is expected to go back to the LA offices."
"Isn't there something we can do to change that? Isn't she a good asset here?"
"Of course she is. But that's where she works from. Her job here is temporary, Nic. She can't stay."
"Alright, well thanks for the call. I'll talk with you later."
"Alright, later."
