Today is my day off, watching Ash. He plays with his toys so silently as Terminator plays in the background. This is the only way I can get him to behave. Scarface, Carlito's Way, RoboCop, Avengers...this kid is an action/crime buff! I think about Cameron so much when I'm not with him. As a matter of fact, I'm thinking of him now.
My phone vibrates...speak of the devil. My screen is horribly cracked, but I can see Cameron's sweet face as his contact picture, so I answer. I'm excited ASF that he's calling but I'ma play it cool...real cool. "H'llo?"
"Cene! It's Cameron!"
His tone startles me. I sit up on the couch. "What's wrong, Cam?"
"I-I can't explain it, just come down to the shop, please!"
I start to feel my heart beat fast. While I'm getting up, I try to get more info out of him. "C-Could you tell me what's wrong first? Cam?"
I hear a loud shuffle in the back and muffling.
"Cameron!" I shout through the phone.
"Cene!--" The phone goes silent. I yell for Cameron, again and no answer. Then the phone hangs up. I can't describe the feeling I am feeling right now. It's almost as bad as when Shai was trying to kill herself. I rush to get my shoes and stop by Asher's room, on the way. I get his baby bag and run back down stairs to him. "Come on, baby boy! We gotta go!"
I think my quickness amused him, because I took him from the TV and he didn't make a peep. He just stares at me. My stomach is in full knots and I'm sweating bullets. Cam is in trouble and I am afraid of what kind of trouble! It sounded like he was getting hurt. I just hope nobody is robbing the shop or anything. Please, God! Don't let my man get hurt! Or anybody at Leid for that matter!
I speed over like no one is in the road. I take weird shortcuts to avoid stoplights and pedestrians, some of those shortcuts were illegal. When I swerve into Leid, there's no cars in the front parking lot because the store has closed down early. I drive up slowly to the back and see about 9 other cars. Damnit, I hope everybody's okay in there! I turn off my headlights and then my engine and sit. I wait to see if I hear any noises. I don't. It looks so creepy the way the door light shines over the back exit. It's so eerie. I look at the baby. "I'll be back little man. Okay?" He's just as lost as I am. I feel weird to leave him in the car...more like worried. But it wouldn't be safe to take him in! So I get out and shut the door as softly as I can.
I hop over to the key code and type in my number. It unlocks and I open my the back door quietly. I'm so glad it doesn't squeak. All the lights are on and I hear talking...regular talking. I hear Gilinksy, Hayes's annoying voice, Kiersey, Cameron's....and they sound okay! WTF! I walk in slowly still on defense.
"Yeah, so--" Gilinsky turns to see me and his eyes get wide. "Sh*t! HEYYYYY! HAPPY BIRTHDAYYYYY"
Everybody does the same. Nobody saw or heard me come in and they turned around like they missed it. I'm overwhelmed and don't know how to act. "Happy Birthdayyyyy, HAPPPPPY BIRTHDAYYYYY, happy birthdayyyyy!, Happy Happy Bdayyyyyy!!! " is all I'm hearing from everybody. Then they run up to me and give me a group hug. Cameron is first. Though his cologne is amazing, today, I could still kill him for tricking me!
"What the f*ck is all this?!" I shout. They just laugh at me. But I'm serious. I squeeze through all bout 12 of em and and look at the cake that sat on the table. HAPPY EIGTEENTH CENE It read.
It's super generic with white frosting and purple and blue flowers all over the place. I examine the cake and everybody surrounds me with huge smiles on their faces. I look at the cake, one last time and then back up at them. "It's not my birthday, today."
