Okay, so everything that's happening feels like something out of a movie. I can't believe we're actually back in Florida ...together! My dad really seems to have refocused his efforts on getting back my mom.
"It's something I've always wanted to do." He says.
"What?"
"Getting her back. Having our family back."
I smile warmly at dad and kiss his cheek.
"Whoa...a kiss? Havent had one of those from you in years!"
I laugh. "Well, I think it's really cute how you want to be mom's knight again."
"It won't happen without a fight. This trip is just to get my foot in the door." He smiles back.
"Yeah."
"Getting a divorce lawyer as soon as we get back." He stares out the cab window.
"I'll help you, personally."
We giggle together as we drive into my neighborhood. It brings back old nostalgic memories of the things that I've experienced. I immediately thought of my "friends" or foes, rather. I cant wait to slap some a*s!
"Wow." Dad unloads the cab and carries all our bags with his huge muscles. "This place hasn't changed."
Dad stares in amazement. "She keeps up with it, well."
"That's mom!" I skip to the front door and knock on it hardly.
"Is that my baby bear?!" I hear mom holler through the door. She's so happy to see me...almost as much as I am to see her.
She swings it open and I immediately jump on her.
My mother, ohhh! She smells so good. I squeeze her tiny frame almost knocking her over, but I don't care. She's so warm and comforting, I couldn't picture being anywhere else at this moment.
"My babyyyy, ohhh!!" She hollers. "Wait, what are you doing here?!" She suddenly sees my dad behind me, stealing her happiness. I finished hugging her and snatched away to run to dad's rescue.
"Espy, I--" Dad utters. Espy is short for her name, Esperanza.
"Only my friends call me Espy!" Her accent is super thick as she raises her tone. She points her finger in my dad's face. She makes him look like a small child.
"Espy--Esperanza, I--" He tries to spit out.
"Honey?" A male's voice calls from behind her. Then he comes up.
"Who is this?" Dad says, eyeing the guy. I eye him, too. This must be Nate.
"Is this...your daughter?" Nate asks.
"You must be Nathan?" I smirk.
"Uh, yeah. Actually I am. Nice to meet you." He holds his hand out. I shake it, weakly and stare him up and down.
