"Cameron would you please just take a minute and realize how precious this is? Look!" I point to baby Cameron and Asher making friends in the pool. I hold Asher in the 3ft end and baby Cam sits hunched over, watching.
"Hi baby daddy." I say to Cam Jr. I rub a little water in his hair and he flinches so cutely!
"Im sorry babe." Cameron is hunched in the lawn chair with his shades covering his eyes. He's visibly upset still after Ariana showing up the other day.
"Come here, daddy." I say in a baby voice. Cameron drags his feet over and picks up Cam Jr. and sits him in his lap. I rub Cameron's feet in the pool with Asher in my other arm.
"Kiss me." I demand. He gives me a lazy kiss.
"You suck right now." I say seriously. "Man the heck up."
Cameron doesn't say anything. Baby Cam stares up at his 21 year old father, pondering. He can tell his dad is upset. Cameron is able to let out a smile when their eyes meet, something I haven't been able to do for days. "It's not your fault boy." He says to his son. "I know you just want the peace, huh?"
I switch Asher with baby Cam and hold baby Cam over the water so he can dip his feet in it. He's so chubby and adorable. He instantly loves the way it feels and splashes.
"Future swimmer right there." Cameron smiles, so proudly.
"Have you started saving up for his college tuition yet?" I ask, randomly.
"No, why would I? Should I?"
"With the money you're making, yes. Put something away every month for him. A few hundred."
Cameron thinks about what I said. "Yeah, I could have had a few grand for him by now. Damn."
"It's okay," I assure him. "Just start now."
I bounce Cam Jr. "So my little man can grow up and go to whatever college he wants to!"
Cam Jr. smiles at me wide. I kiss him and then Asher on the forehead and place myself between Cam's legs in the water. He stands Asher on my head and laughs about it. "Really?" I laugh. "Ow!"
We get out the water after a few more minutes and take the boys inside for their lunches. I make them chopped up vegetables and fruit and yogurt. "They're gonna have the runs." Cameron tells me.
"You're gonna be changing them, so I'm not worried." I laugh. Cameron as usually sits back and lets me do all the work. I can't tell if he's always gonna be this way or if he's just upset and stressed.
"You're pretty good at this "mom" thing." He walks up behind me and rubs my hips.
"I'm kind of a single mom right now." I giggle.
"No, no you're not. You would never be." He kisses on my shoulders.
"You're not really helping so I kinda am."
"You already know whats up. Let's not get into this."
"Done." I surrender as he walks away. He's right. The smallest things set him off nowadays, so I have to be careful of what I say and be supportive.
"Speaking of college..." Cameron blurts from the table with the boys.
"What about it?" I bring their plates over. "What do you want to eat?" I ask him.
"Just give me some of those left overs Yolanda made."
I go into the refrigerator and prepare his food. "So are you still trying to go?"
