Chapter 48

My parents decided to throw me a graduation party.

They also decided it was going to be a secret. So the day of the party I went down stairs in my pj's and minding my own business and pouring myself a bowl of cereal when my aunt Laura comes in the kitchen and yells

"Lukey poo!" She yells abruptly behind me, nearly causing the ceramic cereal bowl in my hand to fall and shatter

"Aunt Laura?" I mumble through a mouthful of Frosted Flakes. She comes over and gives me a bone crushing hug

"You at you you're so big! And tall!" She exclaimed "and so handsome!" She said patting my cheek

Don't get me wrong I love my aunt and all, but this much energy at ten in the morning is too much for me

"What are you doing here?" I asked her, not thinking of any reason she would be here today

"We invited her" I hear my dad say from the doorway of the kitchen

"What for?" I ask

"Your graduation party" he tells me

"Surprise graduation party" my mother cuts in, everyone suddenly appearing one right after another

"Well might as well tell him now, it starts in an hour" he shrugs

"Guys I told you, you didn't have a throw me a party" I had told them after graduation that if they didn't want to spend money on a party they didn't have to. Since summer was so close to being over I figured they had decided not to

"Of course we did!" My mum said

"You're my baby boy!" She exclaimed, huge smile and grabbed my cheek

"Mum" I groaned, but I knew not to tell her that I'm not a baby anymore. That in leaving for university and I won't be living at home anymore. I knew she would cry and I want that

"Oh leave the poor boy alone" my dad told my mum and then the doorbell rang

"Oh!" My mum said "Luke go upstairs and get dressed!" She told me, pushing me towards the stairs, making me leave my cereal in the counter

"Who's at the door?" I asked, as she still ushered me to the stairs

"Guests" she said "now go upstairs"

So I did. I could hear the door open and what sounded like my grandparents on my dads side come in. Great, I thought, more cheek pinching and comments on my height.

I put on a pair of Khaki shorts and a nice tee shirt, brushed my teeth and all that jazz and called Aurora as I slipped my top sliders

"Did you know my parents were throwing me a grad party??"  I asked after she said hello

"You know? It's not supposed to start for another hour! How'd you find out?" She asked

"You knew?" I asked surprised

"Of course I knew" she said in a tone that basically said 'duh'

"Why didn't you tell me?"

"Because it was a surprise party" she laughed "the surprise I kind of the main aspect"

"So I'm guessing Everyone else knows as well?" I asked

"If by everyone you mean everyone who's coming to the party. Then yes, everyone knows" she said "I'm actually on my way over right now" she told me

"Good" I smiled "I'll meet you outside" I told her

"Okay, see you in literally thirty seconds" she laughed and hung up
