The book is called 'Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda.'
So as the name implies, it's a gay teen story.
Which are always great.
But let me tell you, why this is one of the best gay fiction stories ever.
Okay, here's what the book says it's about. (Inside the book n all)
"Sixteen-year-old and not-so-openly gay Simon Spier prefers to save his drama for the school musical. But when an email falls into the wrong hands, his secret is at risk of being thrust into the spotlight. Now Simon is actually being blackmails: If he doesn't play wingman for class clown Martin, his sexual identity will become everyone's business. Worse, the privacy of Blue, the pen name of the boy he's been emailing with, will be jeopardized.
With some messy dynamics emerging in his once tight-knit group of friends, and his email correspondence with Blue growing more flirtatiousnever day, Simon's junior year has suddenly gotten all kinds of complicated. Now, change-averse Simon has to find a way to step out of his comfort zone before he's pushed out—without alienating his friends, compromising himself, or fumbling a shot at happiness with the most confusing, adorable guy he's ever met."
Sounds pretty good, right?
I'd also like to note that Blue and Simon (who's pen name Jacques) don't know how the other looks or anything. All they know, is that they're at the same school and are hog juniors.
Here are some things about it.
1) The stereotypical gay jokes/references are pretty small.
There are a few, but not overloaded like you see in a lot of stories. Like, Tegan And Sara are mentioned, obviously. Those references are just bound to happen.
2) The pop culture references are on point.
It's so for teens. Like, Tumblr being a huge part of the book is already amazing. The way they all talk is very teen like. The book was made in, what, 2014/2015 I think? So it's not that far off. They even go as far to having one of the main girls, be into yaoi (it actually says that) and got Simon into fanfiction like???
3) Simon is so relatable.
Not wanting to come out as gay even though he knows he'll be fine? I just- Ugh. He's so great.
4) Characters besides the main one are hella relatable too.
No spoilers, but I'll drop some names. Leah was the most relatable for me, personally. Though I'm not a straight girl who draws a lot of gay guys. Plus, Abby being like the main girl and being a lady of colour was fucking great. And it barely makes it important, which is good! Make more people not white 2k16. Later on in the story, another hella important person is of colour, but no spoilers.
It was just- Ugh. It called out straight people obsessing over gays. Like, straight girls loving gay guys, straight guys loving lesbians. It also called put straight/white being the '"normal and default'" which is like yes! Why is that??
Also the guy Blue turns out to be IS A FUCKING BLESSING GOD BLESS THIS AUTHOR.
The names of all the characters are so fucking nice. Some are standard, but a lot are pretty clever?? Like, his sister is fucking named Nora. I love it!
I could talk for hours I'm so--
AND IN THE END, EVERYONE IS HAPPY. Or at least it's made out to seem which is !!!!!!!
Also, warning for this book. It talks about sex. MOSTLY GAY SEX. Which, is fucking hot. Coming from a gay asexual rip. But like, it's not like a fanfic where it goes into detail about the sex. But all I'm saying is, it talks about being hard a lot. I live for it.
Okay I should actually rate this uh.

Pacing: 4.5/5
I think the pacing was so fucking good like unf. Fucking slay me.
Uniqueness: 4/5
The whole blackmail thing was really?? Good?? Adding in gays to anything can literally make the story so much better so?? Y'all I'm in love
Overall: 5/5
I'm so gay for this book. It was so good, it was so fucking good. It has now passed 'Kissing Kate' for best gay story I've ever read !!!!!!
Notes: Okay. It does this thing, where it goes from normal chapter to emails. WHICH IS MY GUILTY PLEASURE WITH STORIES. Emails, texting, WHATEVER. I LIVE FOR IT!!!!!
Anyways. Go read this. Whether it be online, using a Kindle or something. Or you buy the book yourself, I'd recommend it. Or get it at a library like I did (you have to be over 18 to get a library card yourself, like what??)
Just please. Best book ever I love it.
I just wrote an almost 900 word book review. God fucking damn it.
