CHAPTER THIRTY-FIVE

The Aquilo wolf entered his headmaster's office, looking like he hadn't slept in years. Surely if the Night Hag saw him now, she'd fear him. The boy took a seat in a chair in front of the desk. He looked around the office and found Landon Kirby in the room's corner with a stack of books and a first aid kit in front of him as he tried to aid a self-inflicted wound but decided not to question anything.

The doors opened and Alaric entered with a tray of teacups and a teapot. He set them down on his desk before he poured whatever tea was in the pot into the cups, "The senior witch faculty mixed a batch of energy herbs to help you stay awake" The teenagers were handed a cup each as their principal continued, "One cup every two hours. There are more teapots in the faction lounges, the Grand Hall, and the library"

"Doctor Saltzman" Adrian spoke as he faced his headmaster, "Please, tell me you didn't call me here to drink tea with him"

"No" The man answered as he settled in his seat, "Landon's here because he experienced the same thing you did with the Night Hag. And he managed to wake himself up before it could plague him more"

The olive-skinned boy glanced back at the pale human behind him, "What, are we blood brothers now?" Landon looked up from a book he had opened to meet the wolf's gaze but remained silent.

"The Night Hag is not why I asked you to come here" Alaric started. He leaned forward to grab a file from the other side of his desk before he slid it across the desk to give it to the wolf, "We need to talk about Olivia"

"She's safe. I sent her with the evacuation shuttles last night" Adrian said as he began to flip through the file, "Why?"

The hazel-eyed sand skinned headmaster hesitated for a moment before he spoke, "How did she end up here?"

"She hopped on a bus" The Latino boy answered, curious eyes skimming through the words in the file.

Alaric crossed his arms, "Yeah, well, Mystic Falls isn't exactly on Forbes top twenty destinations. No one just ups and leaves New York to come to a little town in Virginia, it doesn't happen. We find the recruits, not the other way around"

"What do you mean?"

"When you and Hope ran into Olivia in the hallway, you brought her to me right away. She told us all that she got on a bus and got off at the stop outside the school premises where she decided to walk until she reached a house" The headmaster began, repeating the information Olivia had given him.

The wolf nodded. Those had been his sister's words, but he couldn't understand why Alaric would consider it as a bad thing — he was too naïve and blinded by the return of his sister to see why it might become a huge problem.

The Saltzman male glanced up at his student, there was a long moment of silence between them as Alaric tried to come up with the best way to tell the boy about his suspicions, "Her story doesn't make sense. The police searched the house. There wasn't a single thing that indicated that anyone else but you survived. When we recruit our students, we make to gather every single bit of information that there is. The amount of information we have on your sister is the size of a grain of rice" He readjusted himself in his seat, his voice taking on a more serious tone, "I'm convinced something happened the night she came here, something brought her here. Either Olivia isn't Olivia or the reason she survived wasn't that she escaped at the right time"
