I stumbled my way through the crowd, knowing that Felicia's crew was still glaring at me.
Staring at the floor, I heard a little voice in the distance,
"There she is! Cass! Cass!"
It was Cece standing next to Chloe. Cece is my best friend since I've arrived in Junior High. Her real name is Celia, but Cece suits her best. She's a head smaller than me and has long shiny hair. She's the one who keeps our group crazy. Her little mind is filled with goofy and undescribable things to do. She has a beautiful heart-shaped face and a little nose. Her big round eyes prove the contrary to who some people think she's full of "innocence". Sure she's sweet, and I love her, but sometimes I wonder if the devil came to play tricks on us! For she is, sometimes, quite immature. But that is the crazy and fun side that Chloe and I love.
Chloe, on the other hand, is tall and slim, and has an incredible heart. I've known her since I am five years old and she has always known what to say when I felt blue, and she has the incredible talent of... being good in everything. She gets good grades in all the school subjects, which is the total opposite of Cece and me. Other than school, she also plays the harp, the guitar and dances, and participates in the school glee club (which she has tried to get me to join without success) and is great in all of those too! When I look at them too, I wonder how they could be my best friends. I sometimes feel let down, like I'm the boring one, but they cheer me up and tell me that I'm "hilarious", "kind" but all of this doesn't help me. How come I'm the only one who doesn't get other friends? Or even a boyfriend? Cece tends to get all the boys chasing her and she falls for some of them. But Chloe is a little more down to earth and is "not interested in jerks".
I sighed in relief and trotted over to them with joy.
"Group hug!" Cece called out and I squeezed them both, finally feeling the satisfaction of being protected.
"Ah, finally we're together! Jeremy and Felicia are already gnawing on my nerves..."
"Cass, forget about them, they're not worth it." said Chloe.
"Okay guys, here we are in ninth grade.. Hot boys!" her lips stretched to the corners of her eyes, and made a big smile.
"Ugh, you mean Jeremy the horse, Paul the rat and Sam the turtle? Hurray." I said sarcastically.
"Cece, there's not only boys in life." said Chloe.
"You're right there's... shopping, makeup, parties..."
We all giggled. Ah, how it felt good to laugh. However, my lungs still seemed to be clogged up and my stomach knotted in a stitch. Riiiiiiing. The bell went. My heart stopped.
"Oh no..." Cece whispered. We all shared desperate looks. We had been seperated into different classes before, but it had never been this drastic. Cece was in class A, Chloe was in D and I was in H. It was a strange sustem that only happends in some school around this area. Basically, our time tables were bound to be all different and lunch would be the only time we could see each other during school. Hm. Twenty minutes of seeing my best friends everyday? That is not enough. A tear was rushing to escape, but I rubbed my eye, forgetting the mascara I had failed to put on.
"Bye guys, love you"
We all seperated and I walked up the steps towards my class and found the hall crowded with my new class. Felicia had her back on the wall, watching poeple as they passed, pretending she was the queen. Thankfully, the teacher was right behind me and I waited to then camouflage behind him. We all arrived in the class and I sat at the back, next to a girl called Mathilda. She was a new girl who had arrived from Italy.
"Alright then, sit down everyone, started the teacher with a defined australian accent, my name is Mr. Klein..."
"Hey so you're the stylist right?" shouted out Jeremy.
"Excuse me...?"
"Calvin Klein! Hah!" he chuckled proudly and all the girls twirled their shiny hair and giggled.
It made me sick.
The teacher continued speaking, "Hah. You're the funny one, ey? Jeremy?"
"Why yes, yes. The big, the strong, Jeremy Moore!"
"Now why don't you calm down while I fill in a presciption for meds, for ya, ey?"
The class laughed abruptly and saw Jeremy sink down his chair. Not the funniest now is he? I was enjoying this... Until the teacher read our the list of names.
"Now I will call out your name and please tell me if you are here, and if you're not, then you're not here! Julian Allister, Kevin Beich, Kim Binder, Nina Calvin... Renee Cas."
My heart stopped. All the heads turned round, to see the girl who had never been in this class before. Voices started rising up "she's in our class?", "hah poooodle!", Felicia's giggle was the loudest, the clearest voice I could hear, and it rung in my head.
"Renee?" the teacher asked.
"Yes... Yes Sir." The teacher continued but I still felt as if people were looking at me.
At the end of class. I had lunch with Cece and Chloe and told them all about what happened.
"Oh that Jeremy! What a twit!" whispered Chloe.
"Yeah! He thinks he's like the best or something, I mean he calls me small everyday. Is that the best he can do??"
"Seriously, don't worry Cass. Ignore them. Ugh... I just wish we could be in the same class. I have a bunch of retards in my class. They don't even know how many strings a harp has!"
Cece and I looked at eachother and stared at Chloe.
"Oh.. Okay. You guys don't know either. Damn! I'm like a nerd or something.
We all laughed. Lunch was the best part but coming back home was like winning the freaking jackpot. I sighed in relief when I opened the car and saw my mum.
"Hey sweetie! How was your day?"
"Oh.. Uhm, yeah. Great." I lied.
"Charlie had a great day at his first day in kindergarten, didn't you honey?"
"Yeah! It was really really really really good!" my little brother punched his fists in the air and gave a huge smile. How good it was to be so young, so free.
We arrived home and I went up to my room and laid on my bed. I took a little nap and got a call from Cece.
"Hey Cass! Sorry I can't talk for long but are you free saturday?"
"Sure!"
"Okay well should we have a sleepover with Chloe?"
"Yeah I'll ask my mum!"
"Cool! I'll IM you as soon as I can!"
"Okay thanks Cece! Speak to you soon, tonight?"
"Ok no prob, Bye!"
Hopefully, Saturday will come sooner.
