I shot up with quickening breaths.

My whole body was trembling. I sat up and laid my face in my hands trying to slow down my racing heartbeat with quivering but slow deep breaths.

I scrambled to my phone and pressed the home button. 1:05 am.

I groaned, my racing heartbeat was keeping me awake. My teeth chattered and I simply could not stay still.

I got up and a splitting headache awakened me further but I kept on to my journey to the kitchen. The creaks of the house were the only things accompanying me through the dark halls and the dancing black shadows that were made by the swaying branches of the trees outside.

The refrigerator light shined brightly as I looked for a bottle of water. KNOCK. The sound startled  me and I dropped the container they held a day old casserole. I helpless stood and stared at the mess. I slowly turned to the kitchen window. A storm of curls met my vision. Robin.

I opened the window carefully. "Hey friend." She whispered as she tried to slide inside. "How about I open the door." I replied as she looked to be stuck. She nodded as I helped her get out of her uncomfortable position.

"Hurry up though, I-I-I'm scared of the dark." She sighed. I hid my surprise as I quickly nodded.

I hurried to the front door and quickly unlocked it. A shivering Robin quickly got in. "T-thanks." She quickly said. The blast of the cold wind sent goosebumps dancing on my exposed skin. I closed the door shut and looked toward Robin.

She wore a grey hoodie, black ripped jeans, and burgundy vans. The ripped jeans were probably the reason why she was shaking. She looked interested in the family portraits that hung on the house's worn in walls.

"Ohhh who's that?" She asked pointing to the young dark haired boy smiling next to a younger version of me. Arm in arm.

"That's my cousin Harley, he's kinda drifted away from my mom and I, he's also a little screwed." I exclaimed.

"Oh how was he scr-" but she was interrupted by the loud stomps coming down the stairs. Shit. SHITTT.

I quickly grabbed Robin's arm and headed to the kitchen. "Stay behind the sink." I quickly whispered. She slowly nodded her head. I then began looking through the fridge as if nothing happened.

"Ethan honey?" My mom's voice rang with exhaustion. "Yes?" I quickly called back. My mother's slippers slapped against her heels as she came to the kitchen.
