I jumped a little when I heard my window slam shut behind me, noticing Alistair's grim expression not really helping my nerves in the slightest. I slowly turn my gaze to see a blood soaked Altair leaning against my wall, clutching his chest and staring at me with dead eyes.
"A-Altair?" I asked in a small voice, terror obvious in my tone. He blinked and looked at Alistair, cocking his head to the side and let out a small chuckle.
"You son of a bitch." He laughed, I clutched onto Alistair's arm.
"You did this to me, I'm what children's nightmares are made of because YOU couldn't get your goddamn way with someone you don't even deserve." Altair's voice was cracking and the way he spoke was sour. I felt a shock of anger mixed with an equal amount of terror, gripping tighter on Alistair's arm as tears threatened to spill. Alistair wrapped an arm around me and pulled me to his chest, glaring over at Altair.
"You need to calm down Altair, you're scaring Naomi." Alistair said in a hushed voice, rubbing my back soothingly. I heard a snort and footsteps come towards us which made me shake a little more than I was.
"I don't care pretty boy, I don't care, at all." Altair said with a laugh, and I heard a slap, almost feeling the anger coming from Alistair.
"Do you know what danger you've just made yourself! Turning off your emotions can get you and others killed!" Alistair shouted, slowly pulling away from me and standing. My mother came into the room and looked at the scene, covering her mouth and holding back a scream when she saw the blood soaked Altair. His eyes connected with hers and a grin slowly formed onto his lips, walking up to her and moving some hair from her face.
"It was nice knowing you, Mrs. Carter." Altair said with a chuckle, cupping my mother's face in his hands and slowly snapping her neck. My mouth fell open in a silent scream and tears rolled down my cheeks at the sight of my mother's disfigured body on the floor, clutching my chest and breathing heavily. Alistair covered my eyes with a hand and picked me up so I was facing his chest, burying my face into the crook of his neck and rubbing my back soothingly.
I could barely breath, but that's expected in these situations, isn't it? And even in this chaotic mess the one who started it is the one who's comforting me. I gripped his shirt tightly as my tears soaked through the fabric, not even glancing at my once best friend as Alistair took me somewhere. When I felt chill air blow against my skin I slowly lifted my mess of a face from his shoulder and looked at him, trying to calm my breathing as my tears grew heavier.
"Hey, we can go to my place, okay?" Alistair asked, rubbing my back and getting into his car with me in his lap still. I nod slowly, scared of what might come out of my mouth with a verbal reply. He smiled softly and kissed my forehead, turning on the engine and pulling out of the parking lot.
"Where do I go now?" I ask in barely a whisper, clutching my chest and rocking my body a little. Alistair petted my head a little and hushing me softly.
"Let's worry about that later, for now let's focus on calming ourselves." He said in a calm tone, his deep voice slightly soothing my nerves. He rubbed my back softly and held me close to his chest, humming softly as he drove down the beaten up road that lead to his house.
You know how people say that when something life threatening happens you see your life flash before your eyes? That's a myth, because all I saw when Alistair's car did a flip, was cement coming towards me until my vision went black.
