The Attack

Mother and Father were out again that day. I was left with Annabella, my caretaker, when the fateful day struck. I heard a shrill shriek in the drawing room. I dropped my two dolls and instantaneously covered my ears. I hate anything high pitched.

Annabella looked up from the book she was reading and got up. She looked at me and put a finger to her lips even though I was already silent. I'm always silent. I'm mute.

She walked over to the door and looked through the crack. It was absolutely silent. She didn't make any movement, like a statue. I heard footsteps and Annabella quickly shut the door, quietly.

"Listen child, and listen closely. I'm only going to be able to say this once. You are to go hide in that wardrobe and not make a single sound or movement. Do not come out of there under any circumstances. Do you understand me," She said in a hushed and hurried tone.

I nodded, grabbed my dolls and ducked into the wardrobe. I looked through the little crack as the door burst open and people flooded through. Annabella quickly crossed her arms, as if to look intimidating.

"Who are you people?! You do realize you have caused quite a ruckus and have invaded the queen and king's chambers. This is punishable by death," She said in a furious tone.

Someone stepped through. He had a scar on his left cheek and a beard. He was smiling a evil crooked smile and his teeth was as yellow as butter. I shrank back in fear just by looking at him.

"Ah, I take it you are the dearest Annabella Skojare? The Queen and King are dead," I covered my mouth with my hands. "And someone new and more fit is about to rise to power," He said.

"And who will that be? You, I suppose," She sneered.

"Luckily, for me nobody has ever seen the young princess. I assume you've already evacuated her. My daughter carries a few traits that the newly deceased king and queen carry. She will grow up, with me under her royal gaurd and rule this kingdom like how it's meant to be ruled," He stated.

Annabella was shaking her head. She was keeping him talking so they wouldn't see her press the button under the table. The button that would open a secret chamber under my feet and drop me down.

I've always wondered what happened to Annabella. I flew down a chute. My bright red hair was flying up, wind was hitting my face, and I felt scared.

I landed inside a warm house in front of a fire. I heard happy chattering in another room. I stood up and brushed the dust off of my gowns. I noticed the dolls that I brought along sitting on the floor. I crouched down and clutched them to my chest.

"Let me go grab it now," I heard a feminine voice call out.

The doors to my left swung open. A plump lady with dusty brown hair and a freckled face came into view. She gasped and screamed.

The door flew open again and two other ladies came into view. One was almost as skinny as a skeleton and had low cropped blonde hair. The other had dark red hair that almost looked black. She too was really skinny.

"Oh dear! Its a cute little child," Said the plump woman.

"Where did she come from," questioned the blonde.

"Oh, does it matter?! She's obviously been sent to us! We are destined to take care of this child," Shrieked the red head clapping her hands together.

"Oh, would you get off that "destined" baloney. The last time you said that you had Luce convinced she was "destined" to marry Mal. Look how that went," Said the blonde, as she rolled her eyes.

Meanwhile the plump lady was picking me up. She kissed the top of my head.

"I think Marie might be right this time. I'll raise her as my own. She is now my daughter. Let us call her Noel," She said.
