I'm astounded at the distance she's travelled
But why should I be?
I'm probably the reason she's travelled so deep into the North
When I get to reception they're reluctant to tell me that she's here
But I know
I'm too tired to put on my charm offensive
So I beg
They finally go and get her
My heart ruptures in my chest when I see her
She's so small and looks young but she's glowing and cheerful
I draw her into a tight hug grateful to feel her warmth against my skin
"I've got pre-eclampsia," she finally says and my eyes widen in shock
"Please. Just. Come. Home," I say in a grave tone, my hands cupping her face
"You don't even love me," She whispers her voice cracking
"We can't be together. Can't you understand, I'll go to jail and we'll never be together," I whisper back my voice shaking
"I don't want to be with you," she snaps removing my hands from her face roughly
My heart splinters in my chest and I swallow a lump in my throat
"That's what I thought. That's what I thought before you nearly got raped.
That's what I thought before you slept with my friend. That's what I thought before you ran away. That's what I thought when I never realised how special you were."She just stares at me
She says goodbye to the women and grabs her bag to go home
