Chapter 17

Dacey's POV

All I've done since getting home after school today it think about Niall. Sure I had begun to like him when we were younger but could those feelings be resurfacing now. Did they ever even go away? It didn't seem like he was as bothered by it as I was. I mean of course not, it wasn't even a big deal. Sure our hands touched but I was just taking the pen anyway. Its not like I was trying to touch his hand. I am really glad that we can actually talk now though. Which means getting to hang out with all my friends again.

Thinking about this made me realize I should get the whole group together which let me to text Dakota.

To Dakota:

"What do you think about getting the group together to go bowling tonight?"

I quickly type out and send then wait for an answer.

From Dakota:

"Sounds like a great idea to me! And Liam agrees, he's texting the rest of the guys!"

"Okay great! Lets meet at 7:00?"

"See you then"

So it's settled. This will be the first time since elementary we all hang out together. So I'm quite excited about it.

I feel my phone vibrate again inside my pocket and pull it out expecting another text from Dakota. When I look at the screen I see that Niall is calling me.

"Hello?" I say in to the speaker not sure if he actually meant to call me.

"Hey so I heard were going bowling" he says excited. "And I was wandering if you could give me a ride?" As he says this I feel my heart beat speed up and butterflies in my stomach.

"Y-Yeah sure" I reply trying to sound normal. What is wrong with me. It's just Niall.

"Great! Thanks" he says and then hangs up the phone.

'Its just a car ride dace' I keep telling myself in my head. I repeat this the whole way to his house up until he is sitting in the passenger seat of my car staring at me waiting for me to focus and start the drive to the bowling ally.

"Thanks for picking me up" he says breaking the silence.

"Oh yeah it's no problem" I reply with a smile trying my best not to be nervous.

"Uhm are you okay?" he questions probably noticing my odd behavior. I relax my shoulders and loosen my grip on the stirring wheel.

"Yeah I'm fine" I lie hoping he believes it. He simply nods and changes the subject.

"So we got an A on our project" he informs me. "I'm actually kind of surprised we did that well" he jokes.

"I am too" I say and we both laugh. see this isn't so bad. Were just talking and joking just like old times, no awkwardness.

Except I can't stop thinking about touching his hand and how cute he looks right now. We pull up to a red light and I stop and look over to him. He is starring out the passenger window watching some kids play at a park. His blonde hair is natural and down instead of being pushed back like he normally wears it. I watch as he lifts his hand bringing it towards his face bitting on his nails. A habit he has always had and failed to ever get rid of. He slowly turns his head back up to the front looking out in front of us through the windshield.

"Dacey the light is green" he informs me at the same time many cars behind me lay on their horns in attempt to get me to move. Quickly I look away and press the gas peddle quickly, barley making it through the green light. It turning yellow as I pass through the intersection.

"You seem distracted" Niall points out. "maybe I should drive on the way back" he says in a playful tone but really offering.

"Maybe you should" I say trying to pull it of as a joke but failing to miserably.

"So I think this will be fun all hanging out in a group" I say changing the subject. "we haven't since elementary school" I say as I quickly glance at him before returning my eyes to the road ahead.

"I know! I'm actually really excited" he says giddy, which make me more excited too. "I bet I'll still beat you just like when we were younger" he proudly says with a cocky grin on his face.

"We'll I guess will see about that" I retort right as we pull in to the parking lot for the bowling ally. We both get out of the car. At the same time Harry is walking towards the door from the other end of the parking lot. Me and Niall also head to it.

Niall grabs the door handle opening it and walking inside. Letting the door close right in my face. Well that wasn't very nice.

I look to Harry who is glaring through the glass door at Niall. When he notices me looking at him he quickly changes his expression grabbing the door handle and opening it.

"Ladies first" he kindly says smiling sweetly at me.

I quietly thank him before walking through the door with him close behind.

I walk in and already see everybody at a table and a large pizza in the middle. Niall is walking up an already grabbing 4 pieces and putting them on a plate. Everyone greets me and Harry as we reach the table joking to get pizza before Niall eats it all.

I sit down in between Niall and Dakota. Harry taking the seat across from me. There is something awkward at the table. Niall continues to not notice, Harry continues to glare at him and the other just chat among themselves choosing to ignore it. I decide I choose the later option too and try to start up a conversation.

"So who's going first?" I ask and walk to the large table set up to enter the names of everyone playing.

"I'll go" Liam decides after nobody volunteers. So I enter his name, and then just out the rest in randomly.

Liam walks over picking up a ten pound bowling ball. He lines up his shot before taking a deep breath. Quickly he pulls his arm back before throwing it forward. Hurling the shiny ball down the isle towards the pins. The clatter of the pins catches everyone's attention. The last pin totters back and fourth before finally falling over.

"STRIKE" Liam yells in excitement turning to us and throwing his fist in the air. "So..who's next?" he ask smugly. Our game of bowling starting with a bang.

Everyone has taken their first turn now except for me. I walk up and get the lightest ball I can find before walking over to the beginning of the isle. I carefully try to line up my ball to have it hopefully hit the front and center pin sending the rest in to a frenzy.

Throwing the ball forward, it hits the wood with a loud crack. At this moment if bowling balls could bounce I think mine would of. Instead it barley rolls, slowly moving to the left falling in to the gutter. Then it inches it's way to the end of the lane. The whole time painfully reminding me of how bad my turn just was. I stand still watching as it takes minutes for my ball to reach the other end. After what felt like the longest moments ever, I turn to my friends. I can see them all struggling to hold in their laughter. Finally Louis decides to be the one to talk first like usual.

"That was the worst bowling I have ever seen" he bust out in to obnoxious laughter and everyone else joining in. Going on about how bad my bowling is.

"Here"

Niall says getting up and walking over to me still sanding by the rack of bowling pins. Everyone else continues to laugh as he picks another bowling ball up handing it over to me.

"Let me help you."
