It's been a month. Kataleen has been fairly accustomed living with the Beryls. Their cat, Yuri, was very lively, which is the main reason of their house being messy. Yuri was entrusted to their neighbour and Mr. Beryl's cousin to give way to cleaning up.
On that particular day, as Kataleen read through the pages of the book Morion gave her, she couldn't help but wonder how her friends are. She raised her glasses and rubbed her eyes before yawning.
"Sleepy so early now, Kataleen?" She turned her head around and saw a smiling Arlin, wearing a white T-shirt and black pants.
"Yeah. I guess I need a nap," she said with a smile, closing the book she was reading in the extra room of the Beryls.
Arlin sat on a squishy seat near the spinning chair she was on. "You seem pretty preoccupied. You've been in this room since after breakfast."
"Oh, there's not much to do here, admittedly. I don't know much about magic. Or anything related to it."
"That's understandable," he nodded, then looked at the open window near the study desk she was using. "Oh, look. We've got mail."
She also looked out the window, and saw an owl with greyish feathers, letters clamped between its beak. It perched on the windowsill as Arlin took the letters from his beak.
"Mum, Dad! Bills are here," he called through the ajar door.
Kataleen looked at him, his back turned at her, then at the greyish owl. She just smiled as the owl tilted its head a bit and flew towards her, landing on the edge of her book. "Hello."
The owl gave a short screech for a reply as Kataleen stroked its head, looking at Arlin, who was preoccupied in checking the letters. "Arlin, what's the name --"
"Look, Kataleen. There's mail for you too," said Arlin, handing her a closed envelope.
"For me?" she wondered, opening it. "But... no one knows I'm here."
Arlin looked at her, then shrugged, before looking at the ajar door. "Mum, Dad, are you deaf?! Remus has mail!"
"So that's your name? Remus, is it?" Kataleen said, looking at the owl beside her with a smile as it happily gave a hoot.
She looked at the letter in her hands, then tossed her low ponytail at her back. She read it out loud softly. Here's what it said:
Dear Kataleen,
Cherry has told me that you weren't home, saying you left. As soon as you receive this please contact me to tell me where you are. I am genuinely worried about you. I hardly slept for a week.
There's something I always wanted to tell you... something very important. I'm not sure, but maybe you already know it. If you do, please, please forgive me for not planning to tell you sooner. But if not, contact me immediately and I'll tell it straight away. Remember always that Daddy loves you very much and would do anything to protect you.
And relate happy birthday as well, dearest. I don't know your location, but as soon as I do, I'll send you my birthday present. Kisses.
Love,
Your Daddy, Harvey WiltonFor a few seconds her face was blank as she finished reading the letter. The next moment she realised the owl was trying to tell her something. "What is it?"
It pecked its beak at the sentence, As soon as you receive this please contact me to tell me where you are.
She looked at Remus. "Do you think I should really tell my father, who has no intentions of letting me become a witch, know where I am, Remus?"
