Avery's P.O.V.

It's the first day of school already, and I am so excited.

Evan and I spent the summer in Hawaii with our parents for a month. It was amazing at first, but after two weeks, I sort of got bored with it. Of course, I hung out with Amber during vacation. We go shopping, go to parties, and do whatever crazy stuff.

Amber picked up her bag and slung it onto her shoulder. "Coffee?"

I nodded and checked myself on the mirror for one last time, just to make sure that I look good. Of course, you have to look good on your first day, right?

We both went out of our room and headed to the coffee shop that was just downstairs.

We entered the coffee shop and made our way to the counter. I ordered my usual coffee and Amber ordered hers. We both sat on one of the soft leather chairs inside the shop as we waited for our coffee.

I was checking the school blog and all of the kids are as excited as I am. Some are talking about my relationship with Josh. Talk about invading people's lovelife.

Someone walked toward us, which I thought was the waiter. I didn't look at the guy because I was focusing on my phone, which has access to the school blog.

"Ladies," the guy said. His voice sounded familiar.

"Hey, Jake," Amber greeted.

Oh. So it was Jake. He and I are close friends and before I started dating Josh, there were some people blogging about my friendship with Jake, that we should date or something. Yeah, Jake is good-looking. In fact, he's the hottest guy in school.

I looked up at Jake. "Hey."

He sat down in front of me. "Can you like, stop checking the school blog for once?"

"Yeah," Amber agreed.

And because I felt ashamed, I put my phone away. Yeah, it's true. I always do check the school blog.

"Sorry, guys," I said quietly.

Before either of them could say a word, the waiter came with three cups of coffee. He placed them down the table.

Amber brought her phone out and her eyes widened a bit. "Eight o'clock already."

I stood up and slung my bag onto my shoulder and held my coffee on my left hand. "Let's go, then."

They both nodded and did the same thing as I did; stand up, bring their bags and coffee with them.

As the three of us entered Middleton, almost everyone stared at the us, which is completely normal. We headed to our lockers, which was the same lockers as last year. Our lockers were different from the others because ours were twice the size as theirs. They said that we have double-sized lockers because we have high reputations. Yeah, we're awesome just like that.

I opened my locker and I felt warm hands cover my eyes.

"Guess who," the guy behind me said.

I didn't say a word. I just removed his hands off my eyes and turned to see who it was.

It was my boyfriend, Josh.

"Josh," I squealed and hugged him.

He pulled away and kissed my forehead. "Hey, babe."

Someone behind him cleared his throat. It was my big, over-protective brother Evan.

"Evan," I said, a little bit annoyed. "What are you doing here?"

He pinched my cheek. "Just checking up on you, little sis."

"Ow," I muttered, rubbing my cheek. "I'm fine, Evan. Thanks."

"Okay. Later." He glared at Josh for a split second, then walked away.

Josh turned at me. "I'll see you later." He kissed my cheek then went to his locker, which is very far away from mine.

I looked back at my friends and said, "English Lit. first. How about you guys?"

They both stared at the piece of paper, which was their list of classes.

Jake grinned. "English Lit."

Amber frowned. "Chemistry."

Jake nodded sadly, like he was listening to a funeral speech, while he patted Amber's shoulder. "You'll survive."

Amber glared at him. "Don't..." she warned.

Jake backed away, raising his hands defensively. "Okay. Okay." I couldn't help but to laugh at them.

The bell rang, meaning it's time to go to class. I hugged Amber. "I'll see you later."

She smiled. "Yeah. Later."

Jake and I walked into English Lit. class and we both sat on the back part of the room. People stared at us an I could tell that they were wondering "Did Avery and Josh break up already?", or something like that.

I looked at them and raised my eyebrow. "What?"

Some widened their eyes, some didn't. But one thing for sure, they all looked away.

8 hours later...

One of the best parts of the day is when your classes are over, and it's even more happier when you don't have homework calling your attention.

I'm already starting to miss Josh. I've only seen him twice today. One was before classes and the other one was during lunch break. Unfortunately, I have no classes with him this year.

I decided to text him saying: Hey. Meet you at the coffee shop? I miss you. :( xo.

As Amber and I were walking on the way to our room, she stopped in front of me and her blue eyes studied my facial expression. There was concern written all over her face. "This is so unlike you."

"What's so unlike me?" I asked.

"Not smiling."

I hadn't realized that. I let out a big sigh and said, "I miss Josh."

Before she could answer, my phone beeped.

Josh texted me saying: Sorry, babe. I'm doing homework.

My eyes widened and I stared at my phone like it was going to transform into a deadly robot. Since when did Josh do homework?

"Hey. Are you okay?" Amber asked with a bit nervousness on her voice.

I showed her my phone and her eyes widened. She was shocked as much as I am.

"Since when did he do homework?" she muttered.

"I know," I said. "What the hell, right?"

She nodded in agreement. Josh really never does homework.

"If he wants to do homework, he can," I added.

We both walked again to our room. I dropped my bag on the couch and I plopped down on my bed. I was exhausted, and I didn't want to open my mouth. My mouth got tired of answering people's questions about my relationship with Josh.

I lazily stood up, grabbed a pair of PJs then changed into the bathroom and brushed my teeth. I'm sleeping much more early tonight, which is so unlike me. I usually stay up until ten, but it just turned nine and I'm very, very tired.

I got out of the bathroom after five minutes, then plopped down on my bed and closed my eyes. I'm ready to drift off to Dreamland.
