A/N: Since the school (Middleton High) that I made up is for rich people, they'll have a lot of dances (like prom, etc.), and school events. :D Enjoy!

Avery's P.O.V.

It's Monday again. A beginning of a new week.

The news about my break up with Josh scattered around school so fast. By the time I entered campus, people were staring at me and mumuring who knows what to one another. What sucks about being popular is you'll always be the main topic of the whole school.

"Gossip sucks," I murmured to Jake and Amber.

They both nodded in agreement.

"They'll get over it," Jake insisted and shot me an encouraging smile.

"Attention, Middleton High," Principal Martin announced. "We are going to have a Last Minute Masquerade Ball tomorrow evening. Claim your tickets from the school events director, Mrs. Sanders starting now. That's all. Have a nice day."

Almost all the girls in the corridors squealed in excitement. Of course, Amber and I are excited too. I guess I'm going alone this time, since I'm single. It would be lucky if someone asked me to be his date for the Ball. Luckier if Jake had asked me.

I took a deep breath and turned to Amber. "Shopping later?"

She grinned. "You're such a mind reader."

Amber froze and her eyes widened slightly. I turned around and saw Darren behind me.

"Hey, Darren," I said.

"Sup, Avery," he said. "Can I talk to Amber for a minute?"

I turned back to Amber and shot her a knowing look, then I grabbed Jake's arm and I pulled him away from them.

Jake and I overheard Amber and Darren's conversation. Darren was asking Amber if she wanted to be his date for the Ball and to my surprise, Amber nodded as a yes. I wasn't expecting that because Amber told me before she's going to play hard to get around him.

"So," Jake began. "Are you going to get your ticket now?"

I shook my head. "I might buy later."

He shrugged. "Okay. I have to go, uh, get my book in Englsh Lit before the bell rings." Then he walked away.

What is up with him today? I know that he's lying because he was holding his English Lit book already. He's been acting weird lately.

Just as when Darren was done talking to Amber, I approached him. "Hey, Darren."

"Oh. Hi, Avery."

"Why is Jake acting to weird lately?" I asked him.

"Is he? Well, I have no idea."

"Uh-huh." Then the bell rang.

"Congrats on your date, by the way," I told him.

Darren thanked me and I went to my first class, which is English Literature. I had this class with Jake.

Our teacher, Mr. o'Connor, discussed about The Scarlet Letter. I didn't really listen because what's bugging me is how Jake is acting lately.

As first period finished, I dropped by my locker and a baby blue envelope fell down as I opened my locker.

Amber stared the envelope with wide eyes. "From your secret admirer again?"

I opened the envelope and there was a ticket to The Last Minute Masquerade Ball and again, there was a computerized letter inside.

I read the letter to Amber, which said:

Wanna see me? Meet me tomorrow at 8 o'clock sharp by the pool area. Hoping to see you there.

-Love, Your Secret Admirer.

 "Oh my gosh," Amber gasped.

The rest of the day flew by. I wasn't able to talk to Jake much. Just our random "Hey", then walk away.
