Avery's P.O.V.

I heard my phone ring. I opened my eyes slowly to see who's calling in an early morning. No, scratch that. It was already past noon. Anyway, I saw who's calling and I saw Mom. I almost forgot that it's her birthday today.

I sat up and rubbed my eyes, then I answered mom's call.

"Hey, mom. Happy birthday."

"Thank you, dear," my mom said on the other line.

"So... When and where is the celebration?" I asked, since my mom celebrates her birthday every year in luxury hotels.

"At Ritz-Carlton Hotel," she said. "Tonight at seven. And please tell Evan."

"Oh, can Evan and I bring people with us?"

"How many?"

"I'll be bringing three people with me. I don't know about Evan."

"Sure."

"Thanks, mom."

"You're welcome, dear. I'll see you and Evan later."  She hung up.

I didn't notice that Jake, Amber, and Darren were looking at me the whole time.

"You three are coming with me tonight," I told them.

"Where?" Jake asked.

"Your mom's birthday party?" Amber guessed.

I nodded. "At the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, tonight at seven."

"Okay," the boys said.

I lazily stood up and rubbed the back of my neck because it hurts. "Come on," I told Amber.

"Shopping?" she groaned.

I shook my head. "I'm raiding my closet."

This is the first time I hesitated shopping. I never get lazy when it comes to going to the mall and shop, but today, I didn't feel like going shopping. But I have to go to the mall eventually to buy my mom a birthday gift.

Amber lazily stood up and followed me out of the room.

When we got back to our own room, we started rummaging through our closet so that we can find something to wear for mom's party tonight.

Luckily, I haven't used the blue sequin dress that I bought last summer when Amber and I went shopping. This would be the perfect time to use it.

"Found mine," I told her.

"Me too," she said, showing me a strapless violet dress.

After rummaging through my closet, I took a quick shower and dropped by Evan's room afterwards.

"Evan!" I pounded his door.

Jace, his roommate, and also Jake's older brother, opened the door. He looked at me with wide eyes. "What are you doing here?"

I tiptoed , trying to find Evan. "Where's Evan?"

Jace nodded and shouted Evan's name.

Evan came to the door and he looked like he just woke up as well. "What do you want?"

"Uh, mom's birthday," I reminded him in a duh tone.

His eyes widened. "Shoot." He hurriedly grabbed his car keys and pulled me with him.
