Avery’s P.O.V.
The next morning…
I woke up and I found myself back in my bed, in the room which I currently share with my best friend Amber. I was still wearing my white off-shoulder top, green shorts, and Jake’s gray hoodie. How the hell did I get here? I pretty much remembered falling asleep in the passenger’s seat of Jake’s Range Rover.
Maybe he carried me up here.
I checked my phone and it said that it’s nine in the morning. I lazily sat up, rubbed the sleep in my eyes, and saw my best friend smiling and holding two cups of coffee.
She handed me the other cup of coffee. “Hey.”
I yawned and took the coffee. “Thanks. How did I-”
“Jake carried you up here,” she finished.
So he did carry me. I felt my cheeks burn up a bit. I hope Amber won’t notice.
I nodded. “Oh.”
Amber raised her eyebrow. “I think you owe me something.”
I tilted my head slightly and frowned. Then I remembered that I have to tell her every single detail that happened between me and Jake last night.
“Oh, yeah.” And indeed, I told her every bit of what happened last night and she was just grinning the whole time, even when I finished telling her the story that I owe her.
“Oh my gosh, Avery!” she squealed. “Jake definitely has the hots for you!”
I felt myself blushing again. “No. How could you say that? He only did that because of the drama that happened in the beach.”
Before Amber could say a word, someone knocked at the door. I lazily stood up to open the door, showing a delivery guy holding a bouquet of roses with a sealed letter attached to it.
“Good morning. I’m looking for Ms. Avery Chase,” the delivery guy said.
“I’m Avery Chase,” I told him.
The delivery guy handed me the roses with the letter. “Here you go. Have a nice day, ma’am!”
“Yeah, you too.” Then he walked away.
I closed the door behind me and Amber grinned at me again. “Who’s that from?”
I shook my head. “I really don’t know.”
“Maybe it’s from Josh,” she insisted.
“No,” I scoffed. “He never does this.”
She nodded in agreement. “Yeah, you got a point.”
“But who?” Amber and I said in unison.
“Read the letter,” Amber suggested.
So I did. I opened the envelope to read it, but had no clue who it was because the letter wasn’t handwritten.
“Well?” Amber asked excitedly.
I frowned. “No clue. It isn’t handwritten.”
“What does the letter say?”
I read the letter, which said:
Hey, Avery. Please don’t cry anymore. You’re too beautiful to cry. Wanna know who I am? Meet me in the library later at three. Hope to see you there.
-Love, Your Secret Admirer.
“Oh. My. Gosh,” Amber squealed. “Someone’s got a secret admirer.”
“Oh, shut up,” I said.
This is the first time I’ve ever experienced having a secret admirer. He really made this tricky because the letter wasn’t handwritten. I usually get impatient at situations like this.
“You have to go there,” Amber insisted.
“I am,” I told her. “Later at three, in the library.”
She hugged me tight. “I’m so excited for you.”
This is what I love about my best friend. She’s supportive at times like this. She even wanted to come after the girl who was exchanging saliva with Josh and slap her. I couldn’t help but to laugh. Amber is one of the best friends a guy or girl can ever have.
3:00 in the afternoon...
It's already three in the afternoon. It means I have to go to the library because my "secret admirer" told me to meet him there. I wonder what he looks like.
I'm still in my room, accesorizing and stuff. I've been picking what to wear for about an hour or so. Luckily, my best friend/roomie also has great style. We help each other when it comes to drama and wardrobe emergencies.
I finally found what to wear, thanks to Amber's help.
I stood up and hugged Amber. "You're a lifesaver."
She smirked. "I know. You are too."
Typical Amber.
As soon as I was done accesorizing and hugging my best friend, I went out and dropped by the coffee shop downstairs to grab a cup of coffee, then I made my way to the library.
When I got to the library, nobody was there except for the librarian and Jake. It's kind of weird because Jake rarely visits the library and since no one's approaching me and telling me "Hi. I'm your secret admirer", I decided to sit where Jake was. He was reading his Chemistry book in case Mr. Stinson gives us a pop quiz on Monday. Mr. S just loves giving pop quizzes.
I pulled out a chair and sat in front of him. "Hey."
He put his Chemistry book down to look at me with those gorgeous blue and green eyes. "Hey. What are you doing here?"
"Some delivery guy went to my room this morning to deliver a bouquet of roses with a letter attached to it and the letter said that I should meet him here..."
He stood up and looked around without moving where he was and sat down again. "Well, there's nobody here but us and Ms. Andrews."
I sighed as I stood up. "I know, right. He's just wasting my time. I'll just to back."
Before I could leave, Jake got hold of my wrist and his multi-colored mesmerizing eyes met mine. "Stay."
I tried my best not to get lost into his eyes. My heart skipped a beat when that happened.
I sat down again. "Fine."
He continued reading his Chemistry book. "Do you think that Josh is your secret admirer?"
My eyes widened. I'm surprised at what he said. "I doubt it. He never does that, even before."
He nodded in agreement. "True."
"I highly doubt that he wants me back," I said bitterly.
"But do you want him back?"
"No," I scoffed. "Dumping him is the best choce that I've done."
"Good," he muttered to himself.
I pretended not to hear. "What?" I asked him.
"Nothing."
