Here I was, the happiest girl in the world. I got a chance in a lifetime or should I say job. Somehow, I got into the social media team for one of the most famous football clubs – Bayern Munich. I was thrilled to be the one informing fans what was going on with the team and answering questions. Who better to correspond with fans than a person like them – who feels all the ups and downs of supporting your favorite club? Though I didn't quite get to experience everything first hand, mostly because I had to deal with the English translation. And here was my biggest problem – I didn't know German that well, so communicating was difficult. But they did hire me to help with the English pages and they got more and more popular which made me so proud.
I knew I was where I was supposed to be, this was my place in life. However, it did come at a price – had to move to a new country and rarely have the time to talk to my family and friends. But the thing that kept me strong is that they all believed in me.
Back to the story:
It was another tiresome day. Champions League was especially hard for us because we had to keep everything updated all the time, so our eyes were glued to the screens of the TVs and computers. But I can tell you that the happiness and sheer thrill of continuing to a semi-final was something that will be forever burned in my memory.
-Audrey, you have to go and take some pictures of the team.
-But I thought Frank was covering it.
-Get there on the double! – James practically shooed me out the door.
I sprinted to the locker room, a bit hesitant what everyone will think of a girl entering there. Thankfully, the team were so ecstatic after the win that they didn't even notice me. I managed to snap a few good ones and immediately posted them on twitter and facebook. Just as I was about the make a swift escape, someone yelled:
-Guys, we have a girl in our locker room.
- I call dibs! – Bastian yelled, smiling at me.
- No, she's more Thomas's type. – Mesut nudged Thomas Muller.
By this point I was blushing so much and I couldn't muster the courage to tell them that I was just working for them. But I quickly came to the realization that they're teasing me, only because of the pure happiness of qualifying or the semi-finals. I've read how football players always celebrate after a win – and it always involves girls. I was just a way for them to express their gained confidence.
-Guys, this is Audrey – she's working for a social media team. – Frank snapped me from my thoughts.
-Hello! – I managed to say in all the chaos.
-Hallo! Nice to meet you, Audrey. I'm Philipp! – Philipp Lahm extended his hand with a smile.
-Hi, so nice to meet you in person. – I could feel my blush from the excitement of meeting the captain. It was amazing.
-Sorry, for Bastian and Mesut. They are already drunk on champagne. – He replied with a reassuring smile.
-Oh, no problem.
-So are you going to celebrate with us? – Manuel asked.
-Ya, you should! Great idea, Manu! – Philipp replied, looking at me.
-Come on, Audrey! Everyone is going. – My coworker Frank said. – We deserve a break, too! I just talked to James and even he's going.
-James the workaholic?! This I have to see. – I laughed and unintentionally glanced at Thomas. I caught him looking at me with his peripheral vision. He quickly turned away but Mesut poked him and laughed. He even whispered something but the room was too loud and I couldn't quite hear what it was.
