  Enjoy chapter 20, I just want to notify you that we may be slowly reaching the end - at least of the battle - and I'm quite excited about that. WARNING: CHAPTER 20 ISN'T ONE OF MY BETTER CHAPTERS, just putting it out there so you don't get your hopes up too high. (;

Chapter 20 – A Game

June of the Shadowwolves

It has been six weeks since all the units set out to Blood Hounds, five weeks since the radio silence with unit A started and the most important person in my life went missing. And it's been two weeks since my fight with Rosalind.

But, truth be told, it wasn't much of a fight at all. It took me no more than seven seconds to make her submit. The girl lacked physique strength as she lacked agility and technique. She was no match for a descendant from an Alpha bloodline.

Luckily the rage I felt then hasn't returned. I'd been scared that once the Alpha blood in me had awakened, I'd change. I'm glad to say I haven't. I'm still me, just a lot stronger and able to stand up for myself. More and more I come to accept the part of me that needs to earn the respect of others.

I tap my pencil against the wooden desk as I stare at the words I've written. I've been practicing my writing skills and it's getting easier day by day. My handwriting isn't as neat yet, but it's readable. I have been practicing ever since Adam and the others left. That means I've got six weeks' worth of practice.

After scribbling the last sentence down, I place the small, red notebook in my backpack and put the pencil beside it. I'm taking it with me when I go to war tomorrow; writing has become sort of therapeutic, it's calming and relaxing – when I actually know how to write the words. So I think it might help me at night when I may get scared or restless.

Graham told me it was okay to bring it if I still have room in my backpack after I put in two sets of clothes, knives, food-packages, water and some basic first-aid gear. My backpack is big enough for all of that, so it should be fine. I even got a cell phone in case our mindlinks get cut off like has happened to unit A.

From the girls only Mackenzie is coming with us tomorrow; Kayla, Joyce and Samantha and Rebecca aren't skilled enough to come with. They hadn't received the same training I had from Adam and Graham, or the training Mackenzie had from her warrior-dad.

There are another six in addition to Mackenzie, Graham, Andy and I, so there'll be ten of us.

The goal is to meet up with Alpha Laurel's unit, the one where Cain and Adam's father are placed in. Once we're there we'll face Blood Hounds head-on. We're done waiting. The only thing that time has proven is that we're at a disadvantage where ever we are. They know these woods better than we do. They also know their territory better than we do, so whatever we choose they're one step ahead of us.

The four Alphas who are still on the battlefield have reported an increase in attacks in the last couple of days. Before it was once every couple of days, it has now increased to once every couple of hours. All our units are in position and holding their own fairly well – Blood Hounds have not been able to surprise them like they did before, again. So that's promising.
