Epilogue

June of the Blood Hounds

Five years later

Big men are surrounding us. But I find that they are not scary anymore. They are nothing like the big 'scary' men that I grew up with. And neither are they strangers. These people surrounding us, surrounding me, are my friends.

Some of them have shifted into their wolves. Because that is what they are. That is what we are. Werewolves. We growl, we're furry, we howl to the moon. And all our different colours are what makes us pretty. There are brown, white and blond wolves surrounding me. Only three black wolves in total. Graham, Adam and I.

But I don't feel like an anomaly like I did before.

Adam beside me is giving the men instructions, putting them to work and giving them the hardest work-out they've had in probably their entire life.

We have decided to stay in Blood Hounds, to stay with my brother. Adam was promoted to third in command just a year after Graham became alpha of the Blood Hounds. Adam had quickly gained respect and trust within the pack due to him working closely with all of them while training them.

It was sad that we had to leave our cabin when we had lived there for only six weeks. But now Cain is living there, with his mate who he met three years ago. She lived on the other side of the ocean and Cain coincidently stumbled upon her when he had to go there for pack business. She's lovely and has given Cain a pup already, with another one on the way.

They visit us quite a lot seeing as Shadowwolves and Blood Hounds are almost bordering each other.

Claiming the territory had been hard. There were a lot of rogue wolves we had to fight off and once we had we had to run extensive border patrol to keep them from re-entering. Once that was set in motion, we had to build the houses from scratch.

A lot of the people who volunteered in the battle, now volunteered in helping to build a safe home for the fallen pack.

"Alright everyone that's it for today. Take a well-deserved rest," Adam calls over the field. He turns to me and takes my hand. "Let's go for a walk, Rue."

Over the past few years people have adapted to call me 'June' again. I felt like that name should not be forgotten as it was my mother who named me that. I felt like if the name would be remembered, so would she. Only Adam sticks to Rue and truthfully I wouldn't have it any other way.

It's his special name for me. He is the one who gave me that name, so he should continue to use it. But only him.

"Okay," I whisper and follow his lead into the forest. We walk to the river that flows from Shadowwolves to Blood Hounds territory and even further. The water flows calmly and brings a serenity over us as we sit down at the bank. We're both leaning back on our arms, my left hand slightly touching his right.

"I'm glad we moved here," Adam tells me. "It was like a truly new beginning and I guess we both needed that at the time."

"Yeah. I'm happy here."

"Me, too, Rue." He pulls his hand away from mine and rummages a little. Frowning I look at him, wondering if he's got flees or something. Eventually he stops whatever he was doing and scoots closer to me. Handing me a small box, he doesn't say anything at first. I examine the pretty, dark blue box thoroughly. I gasp softly as I open the box and see what he's bought me.

"Will you marry me, Rue?" he whispers softly. I turn to him and nod, tears are falling from my eyes.

"Yes. Of course," I say through my tears. Adam's smile is almost blinding and he is eager to slip the beautiful, elegant and yet simple ring on my finger. "I love you, Adam."

"As I love you."
