Chapter 14 – The First Five
Adam of the Shadowwolves
"So, any suggestions on how to combine our packs without having only one pair of Alphas?" Justin the head-trainer of Spirit Hill asks us. Currently we're having a meeting with all the head-trainers and Alpha's and Luna's present. We are trying to find a way to be able to communicate with each other during the fight and are hoping there's a way to bind the packs mentally so that we'll be able to mindlink each other.
So far we've come up short. In all history there has never been two packs that were united only by their minds and not by their leaders. It has been one hectic week with the arrival of the four head-trainers and their ten best fighters. In total all the head-trainers and fighters of the other packs come to a number of 44 more men and women who need shelter. Though I have to admit Rue and Graham seem to have everything under control since the pack is running really smooth.
Truthfully I'm a little threatened by their growing relationship. The only time I really get to see Rue is late in the evening and most of the time we're both too tired to talk. She'd mindlink me every once in a while but those little conversations have stopped a couple of days ago. My guess is she's really busy tending to the pack with Graham. Also I have to admit that I might have been too busy to mindlink her myself.
Though happy the Alpha appointed me as head-trainer, it takes a real lot of time to train the pack and come up with tactics with the other head-trainers and get our fighters to work well together. It gives me a lot of headaches.
"I might have found something in one of the history books of The Former Five." Donna mentions, she's the head-trainer of Howling Warriors. It's rare for a female to be head-trainer but she's stepping up to the job and has really impressive ideas. A little murmuring and whispering can be heard at the mentioning of The First Five.
The First Five were the first packs to form such a huge alliance. They were the biggest packs known to history, they were legendary. Unlike the current Five, The First Five were united because of a threat; The Rabid Rogues. The RR was a group of rogues who completely lost their sanity. They got it in their minds to take over the entire werewolf-world.
One by one the smaller packs fell victim to the RR. It caused the five biggest packs to come together and try to come up with a plan to destroy the RR and free the fallen packs. The Former Five fought bravely and they managed to free most of the fallen packs. However, because they weren't able to communicate with each other they lost the final battle. It caused four of the five greatest packs to be completely wiped off the planet.
With the passing of time small packs were rebuilt, but the loss of The Five was still heavy in the air. It was a wake-up call for the entire werewolf population. No matter how big or great, no pack or alliance is invincible.
Out of the five biggest packs in all history, only one remains 'til this day. Blood Hounds. But even if they weren't exterminated completely, they were still suffering a great loss. They weren't left unaffected.
Their Alpha and Luna didn't make it out of the fight. The heir to the pack had to step up as Alpha at the age of fifteen – way too early for a 'pup' who barely shifted for the first time to take on the burdens that come with leading a pack.
What happened all those years ago still leaves its footprints on Blood Hounds. The packmembers became prisoners and their Alphas were led by their fear and anger, they became wary of the outside world. One of the greatest packs of all time fell down and was unable to get back on its feet. They never recovered.
