"Is she gonna be okay," a rough male voice asks as I blink my eyes slowly. Everything is blurry. I also feel someone's arms holding me. "Oh, I'm so worried," says an unfamiliar female voice. "Nobody panic, I'm sure she's gonna be fine," says an unfamiliar male voice. "It looks like she's waking up, Big D," says a deep, unfamiliar male voice. Then I hear the familiar deep male voice that I heard, well, sometime ago, ask a question, "Is her face gonna stay that way?"

My vision clears up as the brown-haired boy that I saw earlier, and who is currently holding me, starts to speak. "Don't be stupid, Adam," he says. " Well, I take that back. You're probably gonna be stupid for the rest of your life, while I, the smartest man in the world, will go on to enhance my genius." "Shut up, you guys," says the familiar female voice. "She's waking up!" My vision is completely clear now and I can see everyone's eyes fixated on me with a mix of worry and relief. "Ugh, where am I," I groan. "Who are you?"

Everyone gives sighs of relief. I am now aware of the people around me. Thinking back, I believe that the boy holding me is Chase. There is a tall, muscular boy with black hair next to him. To my left, I see a long, dark brown-haired girl standing next to a dark skinned, dark brown-haired woman. Next to the dark-skinned woman is a slightly short black-haired man, and next to the black-haired man is a man with spiky blonde hair. Next to the the spiky blonde-haired man is a slightly short, dark-skinned, dark-brown haired boy. "Oh, good heavens, she's awake," says Chase.

The tall, muscular black-haired boy laughs, "Ha! Chase just said 'Good heavens!'" "Shut up, Adam," says Chase. "No, you shut up, Chase," Adam says. "Aw, both of you shut up," the long, light brown-haired girl exclaims. There is silence. The boy holding me, Chase, turns to look at me, and I am stunned by how handsome he is. "Are you okay," he asks, concerned. I have always been really bold, so I decide to speak my mind. "You're really cute," I say, confidently. He blushes beet red and everyone else looks just as stunned as him. Suddenly, he smiles really wide. "Ha," he laughs. "She thinks I'm cute! A real, live girl thinks I'm cute! Joke's on you everybody who said it would never happen!"

Everyone rolls their eyes as I giggle. Chase really is adorable. He suddenly stands up, just as everybody else does, and offers me his hand. I take it willingly. Later, I find out that the dark-haired, dark-skinned woman is named Tasha, the short, black haired man, Tasha's husband, is Donald Davenport, the tall, muscular black-haired boy is Adam Davenport, the long, light brown-haired girl is Bree Davenport, the man with spiky blonde hair is Donald's brother, Douglas, and the slightly short, dark-skinned, dark-brown haired boy is Leo Dooley. I introduced myself as Lyrica Mallard.

Soon, everyone explains something totally bizarre that I totally believe because I saw it happen with my very own eyes. Adam, Bree, Chase, and Leo, are bionic super humans! Isn't that awesome!? Bree has super speed, Adam has super strength, Leo has a bionic arm, and the adorable Chase, who I have nicknamed 'Little Genius,' has super smarts. Gosh, he's got the looks and the brain! What more could you ask for? Anyway, they have a school for bionic kids to train called Bionic Academy, and it is built on an island. That is where I am right now! The more time I spent with Adam, the more I realized that he isn't very bright, but he's really strong. The only downside of him is that he keeps punching Chase and throwing him around, which Chase obviously loathes.

I also really like Bree. After spending time together for a few hours, we became really close. Tasha and Donald, or Mr. Davenport, are also really sweet. Mr. Davenport just seems a little...self-absorbed. I also sort of formed a bond with Douglas, who I found out is Mr. Davenport's brother. Apparently, Douglas used to be evil, but he has reformed. The more I watched the bionic kids train, the more I yearned for bionics of my own. I talked to Mr. Davenport about it and asked him to give me a bionic chip that would give me a bionic singing voice, since I have always loved to sing, but he said that it was too dangerous. I was disappointed.

Now, as I sit and watch all of the bionic students train, I get an idea. I get up and search for Douglas. I find him eating a snack at his computer. "Hey, Douggie," I say, remembering that that is Mr. Davenport's nickname for Douglas. Douglas looks at me with an annoyed expression. "Please don't call me that," he says. I snicker, "Sorry." "So, what do you need, Lyrica," he asks. "Well, Mr. Davenport may have, sorta, kinda said that I'm not allowed to be implanted with a bionic chip, and I might have, sorta, kinda come here to ask you to give me one without his permission in secret," I explained, nervously, trying to avoid the truth, which didn't work out so well.

He raises his brow and then speaks, "No way. I made the mistake of going behind my brother's back and doing something that I wasn't supposed to many times, and the outcomes were never good." "Aw, come on, please," I beg. "No," he says, sternly. Then the two of us get into an argument with me begging, "Please," and him replying, "No."

"Please?"

"No."

"Please?"

"No."

"PLEASE!?"

"NO!"

A few minutes later...

"I still can't believe that I agreed to this."

I stand, hardly able to contain by excitement as Douglas secretly trains me in my bionics. Yup. That's right. He budged. "All right, now practice using your usual vocal warm-ups," he tells me. At that direction, I start to do solfeg. You know, the usual, 'Do, re, mi, fa,' and so on, but when I get the top 'Do,' which is very high, I end up screaming it. The scream causes sound waves to come out of my mouth and sends Douglas flying through the air and crashing into the wall. I stand in shock. Then I realize that I should probably go help him. I run toward him and help him up. "Sorry," I say. He seems a little dazed and dizzy. He looks at me and gives a goofy smile. "Mommy," he asks. "Is that you?" "Wow, he must have hit his head pretty hard," I think. "No, um, it's Lyrica," I say. "Lyrica Mallard." "Oh," he says. He starts to look like he snapped out of his trance. "Oh, uh, right," he says. "Training." I nod and smile.

After a few hours of training, he tells me that I've gotten better. As we exit the training room, he lowers his voice to a whisper, "Listen, please don't tell Donny about all this." I smile, "Don't worry. I won't." He smiles and pats me on the back. "I like you, Lyrica," he says. "You're a good kid." I smile really wide and get a warm, fuzzy feeling in my chest. I really like Douglas. Ever since I lst my parents in that fire he's been like...like...like my dad. All of a sudden, I can't resist the urge to hug him. I stand on my tip-toes and wrap my arms around his neck. He gives a slight gasp, and I can tell that I've taken him by surprise. "Thank you...Daddy," I say, softly. He sighs and hugs me back, "No problem...Daughter."
