A Frightening Past

"Father," I whisper, when I can finally speak. "Is it really you?" "Yes," says the man with dark brown hair and dark eyes named Ash Mallard, who I now know is my father. "But...you're dead," I say, nearly sobbing. "You died in that fire!" Father smirks, "Correction. I created that fire." I think I'm gonna be sick. My own father created the fire that killed the rest of my family and almost killed me. I can hardly breath. My head feels as if it is spinning. I start to fall, but Bree puts her arms around me and sets me up right. I link my arm with hers and feel myself relax a little. After months of being Bree's best friend, I have grown very comfortable with her and we always have each other's backs.

"And who are you," Father asks Bree, accusingly. "I'm your daughter's best friend," Bree spats back. "Me, too," says Chase, linking arms with me, but he sounds like he is in pain. I look at him and he looks nauseous, making me remember that he was just thrown into the air and had a crash landing, which probably didn't feel so nice. I don't even know how he got up on his own. "Me three," says Leo, walking up behind me and putting his hand on my shoulder. "Me five," says Adam, putting his hand on my other shoulder. I suddenly realize that what he just said was strange and incorrect. Appearantly, so does everyone else because they all turn to look at him at the same time I do.

Adam looks confused. "What," he asks. "Five isn't the letter that comes after Three?" My eyes widen because I realize that he just said something else stupid. I shake my head and the rest of the team and I turn to look at my father again. "What happened to you," I ask, heartbroken. "I've changed, dearie," he says. "I've turned to the dark side, which I've realized is much more powerful than the light side." Chase collapses onto the ground. "Chase," I cry, kneeling down beside him, followed by Leo, Adam, and Bree. I take a deep, shaky breath in and out, and turn to face my father. "Father," I ask. I point to Chase, "What did you do to him?" Father snorts, "Oh, him!? He is not gonna be able to walk or do anything for quite a while. Possibly forever! Right now, his entire body is disabled from the shock that sent him flying through the air."

I feel nauseous after my father's explanation. Chase is disabled. If he stays like this forever, I don't know what I would do with myself. "No," I think. "He'll be okay. He just needs some time." I sit on my knees and lay Chase's head on my lap. I'm still angry at my father, but I'm too worried about Chase to pay him any mind right now. I stroke Chase's hair while Adam, Bree, and Leo surround my father. "We're ready to destroy you," says Leo, but nobody does anything. They turn their heads to look at me. "Lyrica," Bree asks. "He is your father. What do you want us to do with him?" I ponder this for a moment. Ash Mallard is my father, but after all the terrible things he has done, I don't care what happens to him. I just want him to be taught a lesson. I look at Adam, Bree, and Leo. Then I glare at my father as I command Adam, Bree, and Leo, "Destroy him."
