It's been about 2 weeks since I met Tyler and we're best friends
He is keeping something from me though
And he is quiet still sometimes
He's cute though
I picked up my phone and tapped Tyler's name on speed dial

"Hi josh, sorry I couldn't find my phone"

"Hi, that's ok, wanna meet at the tree and start building that tree house that you planned?"

"YES my dad got some wood n stuff from work so let's go... Also why do you bother calling... I live next to you" he laughed

"I don't know because I would have to get out of bed and if you said no I'd have gotten up for nothing"

"I never say no dog breath"
He giggled
"Ok then get your butt in my car bean"

"Wait... Should we bring brendon and pete and I'm not bothered to say the rest of them"

I laughed

"Yeah ok tell em to meet us there"

Then he hung up and I saw him and his dad walking over to the car with a bunch of wood

Brendon, pete, andy, joe, dallon and patrick were some kids we met at the tree and apparently we are the only other people who know about it

Tyler finally got in and I drove

We got to the tree with all the wood and tools to meet the boys

For once
I have friends

I smiled
"SALUTATIONS!!!"
They all looked at me confused especially brendon
"Wtf is salutations?"
He questioned
"It's a polite way of saying hello" I laughed
Then I saw him put what I'm guessing was a joint to his lips then passing it to joe
My eyes widened
"Dude wtf!!"
He laughed
"Chill"
"I didn't know you were stoners!!"
He laughed again
"No me, pete and joe are and plus andy is straight edge"

"Oh"
I said
Then Tyler spoke very quietly
Which is almost unusual for him
"Don't do that near me"
He said pleadingly
Brendon laughed
"It's not gonna hurt ya"
He said blowing it in his face jokingly but Tyler panicked and got mad
"WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU DO THAT"
He screamed
Wow
Tyler doesn't swear
Period
Tears fell down his face and Brendon's smile faded
"Shit dude It was a joke I won't do it"
I rubbed Tyler's back as he cried
I really want to hug him tight and let him cry into my shoulder as I plant kiss-
Wait josh no
He's your friend stop
All of a sudden Tyler went into a coughing fit
I whacked his back to help him and he stopped
"Thanks"
He said to me
His voice scarily weak and croaky
"You okay?"
He didn't respond
He stood up and grabbed the wood helping the other guys work
So I decided to message him

Dog breath: hey stay over at my house we can have a movie marathon

I saw Tyler look up from his work and smirk at me
He nodded making me smile

Dog breath: you never told me why you decide not to talk every now and then?

He looked up and me and his smile was no where to be seen
And he started to type

Bean boy: I'll tell you tonight

I looked up at him and nodded

Eventually we had done enough work for the day and we all left
I took Tyler to my house and we chose a bunch of movies

In the middle of JUNO
Tyler spoke
"you want the answer to your question?"
I nodded quietly

"Well... About 2 weeks before I moved to the school I'm at I uh"
He started to choke up so I rubbed his back for comfort

"I was diagnosed with lung cancer"
My jaw clenched as he kept speaking

"I was insecure about my voice being all crackly and dry and sometimes it hurt"

I was chewing on my lip at this point almost making it bleed

"And the day I moved here I was putting things in my room and I saw you put away some razor blades"
He said the last part quietly
Shivers went down my spine and I was silent
Fuck
"D-do you still have the cancer"

"Apparently not but there's a fifty fifty chance of it coming back"
That's why he got so pissed at brendon
I just nodded quietly as we both continued watching JUNO

But I felt his arm go around me and pull me close
He is so warm

"Tyler"
He turned
"Yes!"

"Brendon told me to ask you something"
I lied
I wanted to know
"Okay what is it?"
"He wanted to know if you were a different sexuality because most of us in the group aren't straight"

"Except I'm not really out"
I added

"Tell me everyone's first"

"Okay"
"Brendon and dallon are bisexual they have the hots for eachother but neither of them know which is annoying"
Tyler laughed

"Pete and patrick are gay and
Joe and andy think their straight"

Tyler nodded
"And you?"

Oh yeah
"Oh I'm bi"
Tyler nodded with a smile
"I'm gay in the closet"
Well fuck
I didn't expect that
"That's cool, I'm in the closet to family the kids at school bully me for it so obviously they know"
He smiled then looked back at the TV
So I did too
