Wow! What they made me do was crazy! Ruby has been so generous and kind to me this week and maybe I can do something nice to repay her.... Kelly's thought trailed off as she falled back on her bed and grined while plotting her plan. She started to pack her clothes back in her suitcase to head back home the that day, then headed downstairs to ask Ruby something. "Hey Rube, you busy?" Ruby turned her attention to Kelly. "Hey girl, what's up?"
"Could I take your car for a drive?"
"Why?" she asked with a confused look.
"I just wanna take it for a ride.My car is nowhere near as fancy as yours and since it's my last day here I want to see the sights for myself." Kelly smiled. Ruby just nodded her head, still confused and Kelly hurried out if the house.
Kelly headed to The Shadows and asked for Corey, who looked a little surprised when he saw her. "Hey Kelly, where's Ruby?" he said with a smile. Kelly giggled and got right to the point. "Do you think you could reserve a table for me?"
"For just you or someone else?" Corey questioned.
"For two please. What table do you think is the best one here?".
He pointed to a small both in the right corner of the restaurant. "It's private, very relaxing, and comfortable. Is this for you and Ruby?"
"No it's for you and Ruby." Kelly finally explained. Corey looked confused and then Kelly told him what she had planned to do and why. "She has just been so nice to me, and opened up her home, so I'm here to plan a date for you guys!" Corey had a huge grin on his face and nodded in agreement. "So tell your amazing cook to make his best Beef Wellington. Also, get her a nice simple appetizer and a delicious dessert." "But, what would she want to eat. I don't really know her that well so what does she like?"
Kelly started to think and told him, "Just get some mozzarella sticks and you guys can do the thing like in the movie with the spaghetti but not kiss. For dessert, she seems like a chocolatey girl so order like one of those big brownies that are like the cookie monster." Corey looked at her weirdly and then he started taking notes. "So, what activity you think she might like?" Kelly asked.
"What do you mean, your her freind! How should I know?" Corey exclaimed.
"Jeez, calm down, sometimes girls appreciate it when guys try to get to know her by observation. But not stalking of course." Kelly explained. Corey just sighed and takes more notes. Then he suddenly said, "I now a great place I could take her! I'll take her to the Monster Mini Golf place. It's glow up the dark, some what romantic despite the monster decorations, and competitive! She looks like one of those girls."
"There ya go Core! Good way to observe her!"
"Let's do it!" said Corey with a smile.
"So I will take an Uber back to her place and pretend that her car got stolen and you can bring it back to her place and you'll already be her hero and she will already be dressed even if I have to torture her." Kelly finished with a evil grin. She gave Corey the address and the keys. And told him to wait until she gets half way to start driving. "I'm glad my shift ends soon even though I might get in trouble for this long break." Corey said and Kelly giggled. They parted ways and a determined Kelly was ready to trick a clueless Ruby."Heeey, Kelly! Where did ya go so long?" Ruby said when Kelly entered. Kelly pretended to be nervous and began to talk fast. "Nowhere. Hi." She started to quickly walk to the stairs and out the corner of her eye she saw Ruby squinting at her. "Kells, what's wrong?"
"Um please don't be mad at me but someone stole your car! I swear I locked it but I must have dropped the keys while going inside the store. I'm so sorry." Kelly pleaded.
"You did what! Kelly that was my RIDE! Darn it!" Ruby took a deep breath. "Where were you anyway?"
"I was in a store near The Shadows." Kelly continued to fib.
"Okay, we need to get my car back Kelly. What should we do?"
"I have an idea! What is the brightest outfit in your closet?"
Ruby looked at Kelly confusingly and took her upstairs and picked a light purple and black dress and Kelly smiled. This was perfect for a date. "So it's getting a little late and dark and this outta do the trick." Kelly explained. "What exactly is the trick?" Ruby questioned.
"Well if since this outfit is bright and the guy who stole your car is still there trying to figure out the buttons, your presence will scare him off because your outfit is bright."
"This is the stupidest idea ever. We should've just called the police." Ruby told her putting her hand on her forehead. Kelly began to rub her back and encouraged her to put the dress on and she finally gave in. Once she was dressed the door bell rang. Kelly ran down to get it. "Ruby! It's for you!" she yelled. Ruby ran down the stairs and looked stunned to see sorry standing at her door and her car behind him. Wow he cleans up nice, thought Kelly looking at Corey in his button up, blue and black, plaid shirt. "I found your car near the restaurant after my shift Ruby and scared the nasty punk off that was in it." Corey explained and gave her the keys. She stood there her mouth still open. Then she hugged him all the sudden and both were blushing and speechless. "So uh thanks Corey. But how did you find my address?" asked Ruby. He looked at Kelly startled and started to stutter. "I-I w-went to the p-police a-and told them I-I was a f-friend of yours that f-found your c-car and a-asked them f-for your address." Ruby looked at him perplexed and just smiled. "So, do are you free right now?" he asked and Ruby nodded. They both grinned and Ruby asked, "What do you have in mind, since I'm apparently already dressed?" Corey just grabbed her hand, which made Ruby's cheeks go mega red, and led her to the car and got in the driver's seat. Before they pulled off Kelly gave both of them a thumbs up and she went back in the house. She called Loretta to fill her in and surprisingly she had picked up. This better good smoothly, Kelly thought. It was thirty minutes after Kelly talked to Ruby on the phone while she was in the bathroom at Monster Mini Gulf. It seemed that she was enjoying herself and she said that she's bursting with excitement. At this time Kelly was taking a nap when Corey had called her explaining that they were now at The Shadows and that the plan was going great and she decided to come spy for moral support and since she'd be leaving soon today. As far as she could see things were going very smoothly between Corey and Ruby. There was no rambling or awkward silence just regular talking. "So I hope you don't mind me taking you here, where I work." Corey said.
"No not at all this is actually my favorite restaurant." Ruby replied
They both giggled and reached for the last mozzarella stick and blushed. "You can have it." they said in unison. They both said okay and ripped the mozzarella stick and the cheese came stringing out. Corey and Ruby ate their price and cut the cheese with their teeth then giggled. Those mozzarella sticks are way cheesier than I thought, Kelly spoke in her head. Soon desert was coming and the couple was not the only one stuffing their face. Kelly was still eating and making sure the date was going smoothly. It was around 8:15 when Ruby happened to look her way and Kelly saw her squint. "Excuse me, I have to use the bathroom and by the way I know where it is." Ruby told Corey and got up and walked in Kelly's direction. "Kelly what are you doing here?" she said once she approached her table. Corey had finally turned around and looked extremely panicked. He ran up to them. "Hey Ruby, what are you doing?" he said quickly.
"Again, what are you doing here?" Ruby questioned once more.
"Hey it's my last night here so why not come and enjoy this lovely food?" Kelly lied.
"Girl, that is not the reason why your here. Just tell me the truth."
"Uh, she actually planned this date for us Ruby." Corey explained smiling at them.
"Surpriiiise..." Kelly quietly trailed off. Ruby was speechless then a smiled spread across her face. She hugged Kelly and said, "That explains that dumb plain to scare the guy that stole my truck in order to get me in this dress." They all giggled and the mood of the night was just as happy as can be. Now this is the way to end a night, Kelly thought as she looked at both of the smiling faces around her."So, this better not be goodbye." Ruby told Kelly.
"Ditto." Kelly agreed. There was a painful silence between the two. "So thanks for letting me stay at your place Ruby. I really enjoyed my time here and lets hope that I don't get strange look from people when wearing my new clothes." Kelly said and Ruby giggled.
"Look we know this isn't "goodbye" the government is gonna fix this with the help of you and your friend." Ruby explained and both of them she'd a tear.
"Well, I should get going before you get stuck with me another day." Kelly told her and the giggled and gave each other hugs. As Kelly got in the car she felt many emotions including sadness and determination. I have to make this work so that I can spend time with my new friend, Kelly thought as she pulled off and drove to her side of the border.
