"What are we going to do tonight, my good mentor?" Jeremiah asked his good mentor, Opal. Opal stretched her crystal arms, then cracked her knuckles. "Well, my overall reasonably positive protege, we're going to bring in another one of your friends. Your mistress of life friend, Heather?" Jeremiah nodded grimly, remembering turning his mistress of life friend, Heather, into a gargoyle. Sure, he had learned control over his powers, but would the power boost have the same result? Opal raised a hand, and the floor opened up. She had taken a liking to ripping Jeremiah's friends from their dreams and forcing them to be her test subjects, Jeremiah could tell.
Heather rose from the crack in the floor. As soon as she saw Opal, her face went pale. Unfortunately for her, the floor closed itself before she could escape Opal's clutches. She sighed, and stepped over to Jeremiah and Opal. "What are you going to do with me?" she asked miserably, making Jeremiah feel more than a little guilty about turning her into a gargoyle. Opal seemed completely undaunted by her misery and answered simply, "We're turning you into a monstrous beast. This time, however, you should be able to control yourself. Don't panic, and you'll be fine."
Heather didn't like the sound of "should be able to." She gulped, but Opal ignored her. "Heather, I need you to relax. Jeremiah, prepare yourself." Jeremiah obeyed his admittedly scary master and cleared his mind of worry, placing confidence in Heather. Opal was much more intimidating than Jeremiah had originally thought. He assumed she would be a sunshine and rainbows sort of person, one that always was cheerful, or maybe a person that was always serious and never cracked a joke. In truth, Opal was neither of these things. No, she was an experimental maniac that loved pushing her proteges to the limits.
Heather began to take deep breaths. Jeremiah had never seen her so freaked out; she looked like she had seen a ghost behead her little brother. Jeremiah ignored the thought of fear and replaced it with faith, confidence, and hope: the three cardinal points of Jeremiah's new life, and it was enhanced by the fact that they all meant the same thing. On Opal's command, Jeremiah gingerly touched his hand to her forearm, and change spread throughout her, just like it had a few days ago. Only this time, Jeremiah knew what he was doing an controlled the power of change.
Heather's eyes opened. They looked completely normal. Aside from the giant sharp talons that had replaced her fingers, she seemed perfectly fine. "Well, that wasn't so bad," Heather muttered. Opal nodded approvingly. "Good," she said. "you may continue with the transformation." Jeremiah pushed some more energy into Heather, and bumps began to from on her back. Those bumps quickly formed into wings, which tore right through Heather's shirt. Heather started to breathe a little more heavily, but Opal signaled Jeremiah to continue and told Heather to calm the heck down. Jeremiah remembered that if she wasn't calm, unwanted transformations--mutations, if one would--could happen.
Jeremiah pulsed again. Fur grew on Heather's arms, and her incisors elongated into fangs. Her teeth all turned to sharp, dagger-like points, and horns grew on her head. Now Heather seemed to be getting the hang of staying calm, for her breathing didn't even change during these transformations. Soon, her golden blonde hair disappeared, and black, rough hair grew in its place. Her skin turned to scales, and she began to grow taller and wider. Eventually, the weight was too much for normal legs, and she fell on all fours, like a gorilla.
Finally, her transformation was complete. One would think that a gargoyle was ugly and disgusting, but the beast that Jeremiah had created was far different. The black, unruly hair and general look had disappeared, replaced with a refined, smooth, white scales and flowing hair. Her claws reminded Jeremiah of Castle and his three monkey stooges. Her fangs were beautiful, almost so beautiful that Jeremiah wanted to touch them. Instead of leaning over like an ape, she had converted to a perfect quadroped stance, looking like a combination between a gorilla and a dragon. "You look amazingly terrifying," Jeremiah remarked. Beast Heather snorted at that.
"Excellent, my protege, excellent," Opal congratulated, sounding like she had something up her sleeve. "but what if a giant centipede came in through the right wall?" At her command, a giant centipede came crashing in through the right wall. It was almost as if it wasn't a coincidence. Beast Heather glanced at Jeremiah for a second, and Jeremiah simply saluted her, then pointed to the centipede. The Super Gargoyle sighed, then flew with terrifying grace towards the centipede. With one punch from her giant mitt, the centipede reared back and screeched in fear. Jeremiah grinned.
The centipede struck for Beast Heather, who dodged it skillfully with her carefully weaved wings. She dodged left, then right, then left and right again. Between skillful dodges, she would punch the centipede in the face, making it rear back. "She needs a sharp thing," Opal commented. Jeremiah was right on the case, and lifted his open hands right to Beast Heather. A white beam shot from each hand, nailing Beast Heather right in the back. Her claws and fangs extended profusely, and the Super Gargoyle looked at her new weapons. She, seeming to understand, clawed at the centipede.
It took a few claws at the head to break through the centipede's armor, but after that, the centipede was doomed. Jeremiah shot a little more power to make Beast Heather breathe fire and cook the insides of the centipede, and after that, the battle was over. Jeremiah transformed Beast Heather back into Heather, making sure she had clothes on.
"Well, that was...pleasantly refreshing," Heather described, reaching for words. Jeremiah laughed at her attempt at summarizing being turned into a Super Gargoyle as Opal sent her back into her own world.
"Well, what are we going to do tomorrow night?" Jeremiah asked his good mentor.
"Well, I think we'll go with August, the Spanish machine man. But for now, you must wake up."
Jeremiah woke up.
