I couldn't help it when my jaw hit the floor. Vanessa was walking slowly down the stairs with the biggest, most beautiful smile on her face. Her hand slid slowly along the banister, she was being careful not to trip over her floor length maroon gown.
I've never seen Vanessa wear anything that showed cleavage, but I was happy that her dress did. NOT because I'm a perv, because two weeks ago she called me crying, she said she wasn't comfortable in any dress she tried on. The fact that she was wearing something so out of her comfort zone meant that she believed me when I said she'll look beautiful in whatever she chooses. The smile on her face told me that SHE FELT beautiful. It was amazing to see her walking down the stairs so confidently.
"Hi Wany." She said, reaching the bottom.
"Hello princess. You look incredible."
I kissed her cheek and hugged her. The heels she was wearing made her the same height as me. She pulled away and bit her lip, which was covered in lipstick the same color as her dress.
"Are you sure? Cuz I have a black one upstairs with a higher neckline and my back covered. I can change really quick!"
"What? Hell no. You look fantastic."
"I don't know. I felt confident for a earlier, but I think I'm gonna change! Be right back!"
Vanessa turned to walk back upstairs, but I grabbed her hand at the last second.
"Uh uh missy. You're wearing this." I said.
Before she could argue, our moms appeared, with cameras.
"Woah! Look at you Vanessa." My mom laughed and whistled. "You look awesome."
"Thank you." Vanessa blushed.
For a while our moms weren't moms, but photographers. They shouted out what to do.
"Nessa smile bigger." "Juwany hold her waist." "Vanessa look at the camera please."
We laughed together at their frustration with us, but we did as they asked. For our last pictute I scooped Vanessa up in my arms, and smiled at the camera. A horn honked twice outside and I knew Vanessa's next surprise was here.
"Oh! Hold on. I have to put this thing on your wrist first right?" I laughed nervously.
Vanessa shook her head and giggled. "It's called a corsage Wany."
I took the flowery thing out of its clear contanier and slid the velvet band around Vanessa's wrist.
"Ok lets go." I said.
"Let me get my keys." Ms. Romero said.
"Oh, no need, I got this." I smiled and took Vanessa's hand, walking to the front door.
A long black limo was in front of the house and Cat was sticking her body out of the sun roof.
"Hey guys!" She shouted and waved.
"Oh my God." Vanessa gasped, a smile on her face. "Juwany...wow. This incredible."
Our moms pushed past us with their cameras.
"EVERYONE OUT OF THE CAR RIGHT NOW! WE NEED GROUP PICTURES!" My mom yelled at the vehicle.
Cat ducked down from the sunroof and everyone got out of the car. Jovani was Cat's date for the night, Julian was with one of Cat's friends, Sasha, and Mario invited his best friend Ariel, a.ka. Baby Ariel. Julian, Jovani, and I, were beyond excited for tonight. Since we do school online, none of us thought we'd get to go to a senior prom.
"Vanessa look at you!" Cat gasped. "You look sexy!"
Vanessa turned a shade of red I'd never seen before. She covered her face with her hands for at least 10 seconds.
"Yeah. You look amazing." Julian agreed.
I gave him a death glare. "Watch yourself goon boy."
Julian put his hands up in surrender and laughed. "My bad bro."
We took more pictures for our moms, and then, we were finally on our way to prom.
