The car ride had an eerie silence attached to it. I looked out of the window, and adjusted my SnapBack. I tapped my foot impatiently, waiting to get there to see mom.

"We are almost there." Shay replied, as I waited nervously. I needed to see my mom, after what had happened to her. How could this happen in just a matter of hours?

In the morning, we were joking about something stupid. But now, it's different.

"We're here!" He said, as he pulled into the parking lot of the hospital. Once Shay had parked, I unlocked the door and got out.

I started to run to the entrance- more like sprinted to it.

"Reese wait up! Reese!" Shay screamed, but I didn't care as I dashed into the main entrance to the hospital. The hospital was large, it had a front desk to it, and a big waiting room, with hallways that went to different sections of the hospital.

"Excuse me? Can you tell me where Marie Green is?" I frantically asked the lady at the from desk.

"Who are you?" She asked.

"Her daughter, now I need to see her! Is she okay? Please tell me!" I spoke, raising my voice. My mom had to be fine, she was one of the only things I had left. Without her I would be lost. Many emotions started to build up inside of me.

"Is there a parent with you?" She questioned.

"I'm her father, Shay Butler. I had found out that Marie was injured, and I had taken our daughter out of school. Can you give us the room she is in?" Shay asked, approaching me from behind.

"Marie Butler is still in surgery. A doctor will come to update you when she is out. For the mean time, have a seat." The front desk lady said, as Shay thanked her.

I immediately took a seat on the chair. Shay sat right next to me, as we both anxiously waited for any updates on my mom.

After a while, I started to fiddle with my fingers, a habit I picked up when I got nervous.

"You know, I used to play with my fingers when I was nervous." Shay spoke up, as I stared at him.

"You did?" I quietly questioned. He nodded his head, as he adjusted his trixin hat. This time, he was wearing a floral hat instead of the one he wore when we first met.

"I also love snapbacks like you do." He said.

"I could tell." I quietly murmured. I continued to play with my fingers. What if something horrible had happened to mom? Did they even know how the accident happened? Did a drunk driver crash into her? But it was too early to be drunk- you never know though.

Hours passed and there was still no news.

"Shay Butler?" A female doctor spoke. Shay and I immediately got up.

"No, you need to sit down, I will tell you if she is okay after." He said.

"But she's my mom! I need to know too! Please Shay!" I begged, as he shook his head and pointed to the seat. I reluctantly sat down, feeling scared and worried.

As Shay began to talk to the doctor, I decided to listen to what they were saying.

I slowly crept up to them.

"- she also had a shard of glass stuck in her abdomen, but we successfully removed it. However, we may of found something that caused the accident."

"What is it?" Shay asked.

What I didn't realize were those next words would change my life.

"She has a brain tumor, and has for quite a while. It's too big to remove, I'm sorry. There's nothing anyone can do anymore."
