The car ride was boring, and the tension in the air was thick. Even though my mom was taking me to meet my dad that was alive this whole time, I still was somewhat mad at her.

How could she not tell me the truth after all these years?

I watched as we got onto a large bridge to go into New York. I had only been to New York a couple of times, it's not like I went every weekend.

"Are you ready? We will be there in ten minutes." Mom said, as she looked back at me. I nodded, as I rested my head on the window and watched the traffic flow pass us.

"Ready as I'll ever be. It's not everyday I get to meet my father." I mumbled, as I decided to take a small nap.

----

"Reese we are here." Mom said, shaking me awake from my short nap. I felt my stomach twist in nervousness. I was finally meeting my dad, the one who was genetically related to me.

"Okay, I'm coming." I said, as I got up and fixed my hair.

I couldn't meet my dad looking like a frizzy mess.

Once I fixed myself up, mom and I walked a couple of blocks. People passed by us, on their phones, or busy themselves. This wasn't the most crowded area of New York City, but it wasn't the quietest either.

We walked over to a small café which looked like a mini-restaurant to me. Once we walked in, someone came over to greet us.

"Hello, do you have reservations?" The lady asked us.

Mom talked to the lady, as I zoned out and scanned the place. I saw people on dates, or with their families. I didn't see the man I was hoping to though. I realized mom had tricked me into going to a restaurant.

That or she may of not known.

"Reese, this way." Mom said, as I snapped into reality and followed her. We walked past all of the tables, until we went outside to the back of the restaurant.

"Reese, wait one second." Mom told me as we stopped. I looked at her, confused and nervous.

"I don't see him. Typical of your dad, always to be late and forget about things before moving onto the next thing." Mom spoke, sadness and anger filling her voice. I was guessing this wasn't all about the reservation.

"Mom, it's okay. He will probably come eventually." I said, as I gave her a hug in which she returned.

"Thanks you Reese, let's just-"

"Marie." Someone interrupted us from behind. Mom stopped what she was saying and turned around.

It's probably my dad.

Cheese-balls he's right in back of me! Okay Reese, don't fuck this up and act natural. You can do this! But what if he's not who I expected him to be?

Well you won't find out until you turn around.

I slowly turned around, and saw a man with black hair and blue eyes looking at me. He wore a waiter outfit, as he held trays. Wow what a good way to meet you daughter, in a waiter outfit.

"Are you my dad?" I asked. He looked confused, as he laughed.

"Oh Reese that's Marty, a friend of mine in high-school. He's not your dad." Mom said, as I breathed a sub of relief. I don't know why, but I wasn't properly ready.

After having a old reunion with her high-school friend, I waited for mom to stop talking. Mom looked happy that she caught up with him.

"Mom, were suppose to meet dad here. What if he already came?" I said as mom said goodbye to Marty, so he could go work. Mom sighed, as she turned around.

"Your right we need to-" Mom stopped, as she looked in back of me. Her eyes widened. This better not be another Marty situation.

No offense Marty.

"What?" I spoke.

"Reese this is your dad, Shay." Mom spoke, as I slowly turned around.

Please don't be-

No

It was none other than Shay Butler himself.

As if on que, I fainted which caused mom and some other people to scream.
