"Where are we going?" I asked, as we trekked through the jungle. My wings dragged out behind me like weak and useless sails. I was still getting used to the feeling.
"My camp. I told you already we need to run some tests on your blood, one of our refugees was badly hurt in an explosion a few days ago when they were trying to execute a rescue mission into a Lab near here. The first vial of blood I took from you helped, but it wasn't enough."
"What's so special about my blood?" I nearly tripped over a stick.
"It's amazing. Your blood cells communicate so much better then a regular persons. You heal just a bit faster then normal, and your immune system is uber-mega strong. Chespin, our resident genius has a theory that if he mixes it with another guys blood, Theo, he's our leader, that it'll become one of the best healing serums on the planet."
"Okay then. "I agree, big deal. I'm full of Midi-chlorians."
Sabine's eyes widened. "Okay don't let Anakin or Zerah hear you they will freak. They're pretty much our resident fanboys and they love Star Wars."
"I'm going to meet somebody named Anakin?" Hey I could cross something off my bucket list now.
"Yeah, not sure if he was born with that name or not."
Ironically I was going with a pretty girl named Sabine to go to a camp that housed someone named Anakin.
Oh the references I could make, and then I could say I understood that reference, therefore making another reference. Dear heavens I can be such a dork.
"How much longer?" I gasped, feeling the extreme fatigue of walking all day long.
"Not to long." She slung an arm over me shoulder, and I pricked uneasily.
"Hey Justin, you wanna hear a really bad joke?" She asked, grinning devilishly.
"Shoot."
"Knock knock."
"Who's there?"
"Dishes."
"Dishes who?"
"Dishes a bad joke."
I snorted.
About an hour later of walking with several breaks in between the sun had started to go down a bit. I feared another sunburn.
Sabine led me down to a large river, which surrounded a large area of land. There were a few large rocks which one could hop across to get to this island.
The island itself was encircled in a bunch of sharpened sticks that had been woven together to make a very secure looking wall. Two tall pine trees stuck up at the bottom of the island, and at the front was a very old looking oak tree. Multicolored bits of tarp had been woven here and there to mark overhangs or permanent tents. At least I think they were tents, I couldn't see much over the stick wall.
Sabine was already on the first rock. She offered her hand to me, I took to and was just about jump when I heard three sharp screams come from the tree tops.
I glanced up, startled, to see a boyish figure leap from a branch. I don't exactly know what he was doing but he looked liked he had wings of some sort. Even then he didn't fly he just glided down to the ground.
"Don't mind him he just gets excited." Sabine comforted.
After nearly slipping several times on rocks both wet and dry, we stood before the wall. Which opened up when Sabine screamed at it.
