Selena's POV

When I woke up, I instinctively reached for my phone to check the time, but my attention was immediately caught by a message notification from Justin.

Justin

Good morning. Any plans for today?

Selena

Nothing planned yet.

Justin

How about golf in two hours?

Selena

Golfing? xD I can't golf.

Justin

Me neither.

Selena

Haha, okay.

Justin

See ya then.

Selena

Yeah, bye.

I lay in bed for a while, contemplating my plans with Justin for the day. After some time, I got up, heading to the kitchen to grab breakfast while watching TV. Suddenly, I realized I had only 20 minutes to get ready for my outing with Justin. I hurriedly went upstairs to change, and as I applied some makeup, the doorbell rang. Justin was at the door, looking undeniably attractive in a blue shirt, khaki shorts, and his signature black cap.

"Morning," he greeted me with a smile.

"Hey, just give me a minute. I'll write Eva a note so she won't worry about me," I said, disappearing into the kitchen to scribble a quick message. 'I'm out, see you this evening. Sel.' I returned to the door, purse in hand. "All done," I announced.

"Then let's get going," Justin said, opening the car door for me, a gesture that never failed to make me smile. Once we were both in the car, he started driving.

After just five minutes, we arrived at a vast lawn with a small lake close to a beach. The scenery was breathtaking, and while I admired the view, Justin unloaded golf clubs and balls from the car.

"It's cool, isn't it?" Justin asked, pulling me from my thoughts.

"It's amazing!" I replied truthfully. "Wanna start?" he asked, handing me a golf ball with a smile.

I attempted to hit the ball, but my lack of golfing skills became apparent. Justin burst into laughter, and I couldn't help but join him. "Need some help?" he offered.

"You can try," I replied, a bit skeptical of improvement even with assistance.

"Okay, I'll do my best," he said. "You said you couldn't play. How are you gonna help me?" I asked, confused.

"Yeah, I haven't played in a while, but I used to when I was younger. Sometimes I came here with my uncle, and he showed me how to play," he explained.

"Is this an official golf course?" I inquired.

"No, why pay a lot of money when we can play here for free? And there are holes too," he said, sounding like an excited kid with a new toy.

Laughing, I said, "Okay, then show me how to do it."

"You gotta hold the golf club like this," he demonstrated. Trying to mimic him, I failed miserably, eliciting laughter from both of us. He then approached me, touched our hands, and positioned them on the golf club. "Hold it like that," he said by my ear, his voice unintentionally sexy. I struggled to concentrate. "Try again," he urged.

Despite my lack of focus, I managed to hit the ball. Unfortunately, I also managed to hit Justin with the golf club, smacking him right in the face.

"Oh my— I'm so sorry," I said, laughter bubbling out uncontrollably.

"No, it's okay," he chuckled, though I could see it genuinely hurt. He held his cheek, trying to hide the discomfort.

"You okay?" I asked, touching his cheek. We both fell silent for a moment, staring into each other's eyes. He moved closer, our lips mere millimeters apart. Suddenly, the lawn sprinkler came to life.

"Wow," Justin exclaimed, surprised. We both burst into laughter. He took my hand, leading me through the sprinkler until we were both thoroughly soaked. He then looked deep into my eyes again, leaning in. But uncertain if it was the right moment, I did the most normal thing anyone would do.

Giggling, I started running away. Justin chased after me and caught me in no time. He embraced me from behind, spinning me around. It felt exhilarating, and I couldn't help but feel a surge of happiness.

Should I kiss him? No. But if he tries to kiss me again, I'll kiss him back. Maybe now, or at least today. I'm leaving in two days, and I really wish I could stay. I promised Emma to come back during the next holidays, but that's more than 10 weeks away.

"What's up?" Justin asked again, snapping me out of my thoughts. "Nothing. I just remembered that the holidays are almost over, and I have to go back in two days," I replied.

"Yeah, but let's enjoy it here and now without thinking about two days ahead," he suggested. "Wanna keep on playing?" he asked, moving away from me. I was disappointed that he didn't try to kiss me again and regretted running away earlier.

Justin's POV

I wanted to kiss her, I really did. But first, it was the lawn sprinkler that interrupted us, and then the next time, she ran away. It gave me the impression that she didn't want to kiss me. So, I decided to give up, maybe save the kiss for another time. Maybe she doesn't even like me like that. Maybe we're destined to be just friends. Hopefully not, because I can't take it. I can't just be friends with her; I've fallen for her, and I don't think I can ever let her go. I want her by my side every hour, every minute, and even every second. But I hate the fact that she's leaving in two days. After that, I won't see her for like 10 weeks, unless I go visit her.

This time, I was the one to suggest we move on and keep golfing. "Now it's your turn," she said, and we continued playing for a while. Despite the hours spent golfing, she still struggled to hit the ball properly. After an hour, I sensed that she wasn't having as much fun anymore. "Should we try something different?" I suggested. She nodded, and we packed up the golf stuff, returning it to my car.

Once done, I asked, "What do you want to do now?"

"Um... How about..." At that moment, she ran away, and I followed her until we stood in front of the small lake. "...chilling at the beach?" she finished.

I burst into laughter because the so-called 'beach' was just a bit of sand on the lawn. But we sat down anyway. "What about tomorrow?" I asked.

"What about it?" she replied, looking confused.

"Do you have anything planned?" I asked, hoping we could hang out again.

"Unfortunately, yes. It's Eva's birthday, and we planned a day in Dallas with her. First, brunch, then a bit of touring the town, and finally, visiting her mom," she explained.

"Your grandma?" I clarified.

"Yes, I haven't seen her in two years. I really can't miss it. Sorry, Justin."

"No, it's okay," I said, and we continued talking.
