Chapter 20

Chapter 20-Love is not a game

I walked into the bathroom and had a quick shower, today was the day back to school and I was dreading every step of the way there. I got out and put on a singlet with some leggings and ugg boots and a sweater on top as it was winter season. I then put minimal make up and put my hair into a ponytail as I walked downstairs and had some breakfast and then walked out after grabbing my stuff. My parents were still asleep as it was my dad's day off.

After half an hour, I reached outside school and took a deep breath as I walked towards the gates and made my way inside. I went to my locker first and put away my books and grabbed the ones I needed. I had English first and Josh, Eve and Jake were in that class as well as Cleo.

The bell rang signalling that we had to make our way to class. I walked in and took my seat in the back as I watched everyone's eyes on me as they had all witnessed mine and Josh's heated argument at the funeral. I ignored the stares that were piercing through me and stared ahead. I saw Josh walk in with Jake and Cleo, he looked at me as I stared back at him. I quickly looked away as I felt the tears come and he Jake pulled him away to their seats. Eve walked in next and came and sat next to me.

"Hey." She said.

"Hey." I mumbled. She knew why I was like that but dropped it as the teacher walked in and started the lesson. I didn't pay any attention to what he said as I looked at Josh and the way he was acting with Cleo, like she was his girlfriend.

"You shouldn't show him you still care." I turned to see Eve looking at Josh and Cleo's direction as well.

"What do you mean?" I asked confused.

"They are going out." I looked at her as my heart dropped. How could he move on that quickly? I turned to him and Cleo, maybe it was for the best cause I mean he looks so happy.

The bell rang for second period and I quickly ran out of there after collecting my things and made my way to maths which we had next.

I sat at my seat and waited for the teacher to start after everyone came so I could just run to the girls bathroom and cry my heart out.

"Hey, why didn't you wait for me?" Said Eve as she sat next to me.

"Sorry." I said simply as I saw Jake, Cleo and Josh sit down in front of us.

The teacher then started the lesson. After another half an hour the lesson ended and it was time for break. This time I waited for Eve to grab her stuff and we both walked outside and sat down under the sun.

"So..." She said.

"I know what you wanna ask, so just go ahead." I said cutting her off.

"Why did you break up?" I sighed.

"It's complicated." I looked at her. "I was scared that I would lose him like you lost Johnny and I couldn't bear that so..." I trailed and half-lied.

She nodded as she understood. I felt bad not telling her the truth but it was half the truth.

"Come on." She said as she got up. "We've got gym and you know coach." I laughed as I imagined his face if we came late.

After changing we made our way to the gym.

"Right." Said the coach. "Today we will be playing dodgeball, girls vs boys, so get into each sides of the gym." We all walked to each side and looked at the balls. The coach blew the whistle and everyone went to grab the balls. We all started to throw them at each other.

After an hour, it was just me, Eve and Josh and Jake. We all stared at each other. The coach then blew the whistle and we grabbed as many balls as we could as the people cheered for their team.

"Come on Josh baby." I looked to the side to see Cleo cheering for Josh as he blew her a kiss and then smirked at me.

I put on a small smile to show him it didn't affect me at all and then walked back to Eve we had three balls whilst the boys had four. They threw them all as we stood there waiting for them to waste all their balls. I then grabbed one and threw it full aim and it hit Jake on the leg, he was out. Everyone was cheering. Josh then grabbed it and it hit Eve she screamed and then walked to the rest after shooting a glare at Josh and smiling at me. I looked at Josh and grabbed a ball as he mimicked my steps and we looked at each other as we swayed side to side watching like a predator would to its prey. He then threw it at me and I dodged it. I then threw the ball which he dodged as well. We kept on hitting it at each other and after a bit the coach blew the whistle and said it was a tie as we couldn't get each other out. We then all walked to the changing rooms and got changed and made our way to lunch. Me and Eve sat in our normal lunch table that we used to sit on before we met Josh and his group. We ate quietly, until Jake came.

"Can I talk to you?" He said. I nodded and we went to a corner and he started talking.

"Please get back with Josh!" He blurted. I looked at him in shock.

"What, why?"

"Because he is broken without you, Karina."

"He is doing much better without me." I said annoyed.

"He is just showing that to you. He isn't really."

"Well, I don't want to go back to him." He looked at me until he said the next words that hurt me a lot.

"I was right all along, you are just like all the other whores out there. When you first came I thought you were different and when Josh first saw you he fell in love, it was the first time I saw him so happy. But I was wrong and today you have just proven that." He said gritting his teeth. I looked at him as I held the tears back.

"Jake, I..."

"Save it," He said cutting me off. "Love isn't a game you know, but for people like you it is you think it's funny messing with others feelings, but guess what, it isn't." He then walked off. I looked at where he was standing and then ran as I felt the tears come. I ran the corner to make my way into the girls bathroom until I saw Josh and Cleo having a heated kiss against the lockers. I watched as he lifted her and put his hands on her waist as she gripped his hair, that was supposed to be me.

What had I done?
