When I had dried my tears, Scott and I joined the others downstairs. Jen was still staring blankly at nothing and Demi was rifling through the pantry."A-ha!" she exclaimed and carried out a few cans of spaghetti O's and ravioli. I was too exhausted to eat. Scott sat down next to Jen and tried to talk to her but I just dropped down into a chair and pulled my knees up to my chest.
Scott rubbed Jens arms trying to sooth her but she didn't budge. He finally sighed and got up, leaving the room. He came back a couple minutes later with lanterns and candles. He set them on the counter in the kitchen and some on the coffee table in the living room where we all were. He lit and turned them on just as the remaining light outside disappeared completely.
Demi pulled me next to everyone else on the couch and she ate her ravioli slowly. Everything got quiet. That's when we heard the scratching noises and all turned our heads toward the front door. The door knob was slowly moving back and forth, as one of those things fiddled with it. Scuffling noises sounded from outside the door as a few more decided to give it a go. My breathing was now only shallow pants as the thought of any of them getting in here crossed my mind.
I glanced at Jen and at that moment one of the things banged against the door. Jens mouth opened to scream but Scott clamped a hand over her mouth and whispered soothing words in her ear before she could alert any of the dead where we were. She settled her head against his chest and squeezed her eyes shut. Demi glanced around the room frantically and I shook my head and mouthed 'We have to stay calm.' She nodded once.
I heard the scratching of fingernails behind me and turned around slowly to see the window boards. They were trying to get in everywhere. I bit my lip to keep from fidgeting. Demi squeezed my hand and I looked back at her. She smiled assuringly at me and I nodded. I lay my head on her shoulder and the four of us attempted to sleep as the dead gnawed and tapped on the door and groaned all night long.

'Attempted to sleep' was an understatement.
I didn't get more than thirty minutes of sleep at a time and stayed awake for hours in between. I woke up completely at what I would guess was around six o'clock in the morning. I got up, careful not to wake anyone and grabbed a can of Spaghetti O's and dug in. I guess you could say I got hungry. Then I noticed something.
Where'd Scott go? I set the can down and tip-toed through the house, whispering his name every minute or so. I reached the upstairs hallway and began to whisper his name again.
"Sco-" I started but stopped when I heard a thud.
My heart beat so fast I thought it would fly out of my chest. Was there a zombie in the house? No. Just no. I grabbed a lamp and eased my way down the hallway, freezing when I got to the end. Everything was silent. Then out of nowhere the door to my right opened and someone walked out, trapping me in the hallway. I took in a breath to scream and a hand fell over my mouth.
"Amy, why are you wandering around the house at six in the morning?" Scott asked, amusement clear in his deep voice.
I jerked my head away from his hand and he smirked, crossing his arms over his....bare chest. As my eyes sank lower, I my gaze ran into a fluffy white towel. I ripped my gaze back up to his face.
"A shower? At 6am? Really?" I asked exasperated.
My eyes involuntarily snapped back down to his sculpted chest for a brief moment.
"Didn't your mother ever tell you not to stare?" Scott asked and my eyes narrowed at him. A smile played over his lips and I rolled my eyes.
"Get dressed Scott. I need to talk to you all about something." I told him, pushing his chest away from me. I walked toward the stairs, setting the lamp back down on my way.
