Meeting Kuroo had been one of the happiest days of your life, but now you were feeling conflicted.

The two of you had been best friends since you were little. You'd been chasing your cat after it had escaped from you, but you'd tripped and fallen down. A young boy had noticed your predicament and had managed to grab your cat before it got too far away. He'd then returned your cat to you and had walked home with you after sticking a bandaid on your bloody knee.

Since that meeting, you'd become fast friends and had spent almost all of your time together. He made you happy and he was your support, but you felt that you couldn't tell him about the huge crush you had on him.

Lately, you'd been feeling a sort of distance between the two of you, and you knew exactly what was causing it even though Kuroo seemed to be oblivious. Ever since he'd entered high school, Kuroo had established himself as a flirt. He flirted with girls left and right, and your name was probably lost in amongst all of the other female contacts he had on his phone.

The way he flirted so much really irritated you since you had a huge and unwavering crush on him. You felt like an idiot for liking someone like him, but you'd grown so close to him over the years that you couldn't help it.

Now, as you watched Kuroo smirk and play around with another girl, you felt a twinge of sadness and anger mixed together. Why couldn't he see how much you liked him? Why didn't he seem to care about you anymore.

"Tetsurou!" you called out to him as he walked past you with the girl he'd been talking to. He froze in his tracks and searched for you before spotting you and approaching you, leaving his date unattended for a moment.

"Hey, (f/n)!" he greeted you with a warm smile.

"Where are you going?" you asked. His smile usually made you feel warm and fuzzy inside, but now it made you feel betrayed.

"I'm going with (girl's name) to help her with her homework," he explained and nodded to where the girl was standing a few feet away.

"Don't you remember our plans?" His expression was blank, so you elaborated with, "You were supposed to help me with my homework today after school."

Realization struck, and Kuroo's eyes widened. "Oh... Well, I can't make it today; I'm sorry," was his lame response as he ran a hand through his bedhead.

You felt anger and embarrassment heat up inside of you as you glared at him. "So you were just going to leave without letting me know? If I hadn't called you over, you wouldn't have told me that you were ditching me."

"I would've texted you! And it's not like I'm ditching—"

"Yes, you are! We made this plan, like, five days ago, Tetsurou, and now you're just ditching me to go and fuck another stupid girl that you met like five seconds ago?" you growled.

"That's not what I'm doing at all, (f/n)! Why do you think I'm some kind of player?!" He narrowed his eyes at you and crossed his arms in front of his chest. The way he looked down on you made you feel small and unimportant, and you hated it.

"Because you are!" you cried, "You don't even seem to care about me anymore! You never hang out with me because you're too busy tutoring these other, more attractive girls!"

"I'm not doing what you think I'm doing. These girls actually do need my help."

"And since when did they take priority over our friendship?" There was a long silence before you continued. "How many times have you pushed our plans to the side or dumped me so that you could go out with another girl? How many times have I let you walk all over me? How many movies have I gone to see by myself? How long have I spent waiting for you to text or call back?"

"You have other friends too, (f/n). I don't understand why you're so obsessed with me. And stop trying to control me! I can do whatever I want and I don't need to be policed by you!" he responded sternly.

That was the final straw for you. Adjusting your bag on your shoulder, you clenched your jaw and gave him the meanest glare you possibly could. "You know what? I'm done. Do whatever the hell you want." You pushed past him and started to walk away.

"What is wrong with you?!" he called after you, making you stop and turn back around.

There was a long silence as you looked at him, only breaking your gaze to glance at the girl accompanying him.

When you returned your (e/c) eyes to his, you shouted, "I hate you!" before storming out of the school, not even bothering to turn back to see his reaction.

After that fight, the two of you refused to speak to each other. The person you'd been so close to seemed to be nothing but a stranger. The distance hurt you immensely since you still loved him. The feelings you held for him really made your life without him all the more difficult.

The two of you would see each other in the hallway, but wouldn't exchange greetings or look into each other's eyes for more than a split second. You didn't go to his volleyball games anymore, and you fumed inwardly every time you saw him with a different girl. That was a huge slap in the face to you since it showed that he still didn't care.

A few weeks later, you noticed that Kuroo's desk had been empty for a few days in a row, and you felt worry in the pit of your stomach. After school, you found Yaku and asked him about Kuroo.

To your horror, he told you that Kuroo had been involved in a serious car accident and was in the hospital. Nobody knew when he'd be able to be discharged or what injuries he had.

After hearing this, you felt panicky and slightly nauseous. Even after the horrible things he'd done to you, you still cared deeply about him and that wasn't going to change.

You ran as fast as your legs would carry you to the hospital, and approached the nurse's desk, asking to see Kuroo in between your frantic gasps for air. When the wait was over, a nurse led you to his room and left you alone.

Kuroo was fast asleep, and a majority of his body was covered in bandages. He had them wrapped around his head, his arms, and the part of his torso that peeked out from his gown. His right arm was in a cast, as well as his right foot, and he looked so miserable with the painkillers and heartbeat monitor hooked up to him.

"Tetsurou..." you whimpered as you approached his bed and sat down next to him. You rested your head beside his and stroked his cheek gently with your hand, being careful of the bruises and scratches.

"(F/n)... I'm sorry..." he groaned softly as he stirred from his sleep.

"What...? How do you know it's me? You haven't even opened your eyes," you asked.

"You're the only person who cares enough to visit me and make sure I'm okay." His words made your heart sink. You hated finding out that he'd been alone this whole time. He took a deep and painful breath before continuing, "I'm sorry for what I said and did to you. After thinking about what happened, I realized that I didn't want to be without you, and that I loved you, but I didn't get the chance to tell you before this stupid thing happened."

You blushed upon hearing his confession. "You... You love me?" you echoed, wondering if you'd heard him right.

He tried to turn his head, but the intense pain in his neck prevented him from doing so. Seeing his struggle, you lifted your own head so that he could see you without moving. "I love you, (f/n). Please forgive me for being such an asshole..."

You smiled gently as you leaned down towards him and pressed a kiss against his lips that he returned. "I love you and I forgive you, Tetsurou."
