"What do you want? This seat is taken."

You glared at the guy who had moved into the seat that your boyfriend had vacated to go to the bathroom. He was one of your fellow classmates who always tried to hit on you whenever Kuroo was gone. Not only was he annoyingly persistent, but he was also a huge gossip.

"By whom? I don't see anyone sitting here," he stated matter-of-factly as he sat down beside you and placed his arm around the back of your chair. You instinctively scooted away from him and continued to eat your lunch, hoping he would leave you alone. "Where's that dumbass boyfriend of yours?" he questioned rudely as he leaned over towards you.

"Don't say that about him, you jerk!" you growled at him.

"Jerk? Is that really the best insult you could come up with? Come on, babe," he responded mockingly.

"I would call you a dick but you wouldn't know what that is since you don't even have one."

The guy let out a long sigh and scowled at you. "Listen, why don't you stop trying to fight me? You know you want me, (f/n)," he goaded.

"What gave you that impression?" You munched on your food with disinterest since you'd been in this same situation with this guy just about a thousand times already. Tetsurou, where the hell are you?

"You and me both know that you're better off without Kuroo. He's not good for you and you need to accept that."

You were about to tell him off, but you didn't get the chance to before Kuroo appeared in front of the desk and towered over the two of you. His brown eyes were cold and angry as they stared at the guy next to you. "Why don't you tell me why I'm not good for (f/n)?" he challenged.

The guy looked around the classroom full of students eating lunch before smirking slightly. "Kuroo, you're obviously not good for (f/n) because of the way you were brought up," he began in a voice loud enough for everyone to hear, "I mean, your father got your mother pregnant and then left. Who's to say that you won't do the same to (f/n)? You know how history has a tendency to repeat itself, don't you?"

Everyone in the classroom was completely silent as they stared at Kuroo with wide eyes. "How dare you say that!" you gasped, resisting the urge to slap the shit out of the guy.

He had a smug smile on his face as he continued, "Yeah, that's right. Kuroo Tetsurou here was born as a result of a one night stand. And as much as I hate him, I pity him for lacking the proper upbringing needed to be successful in life."

You looked over at Kuroo and saw that he was looking out the window with an extremely pissed off expression on his face. He was gnawing at his lower lip with his teeth and the muscles in his neck were unusually tense. It was quite rare to see him get so worked up over anything, but the subject of his mother was a very touchy one to him.

What the guy had said was true. Kuroo was, in fact, the product of a one night stand. His mother had become involved with a man who took advantage of her. After having sex with her, he'd left the next morning, and she'd found out that she had gotten pregnant from the encounter.

Kuroo had only shared that secret with his close friends and with you, since you'd known him since the two of you were little. It wasn't easy for him to talk about and he hated being pitied for having the life that he did. His mother was a role model to him and you knew that he loved her more than anyone else, so when people chastised her for her decisions or judged his upbringing, he got very bent out of shape very quickly.

"I don't want your pity or your sympathy," Kuroo growled as he turned to face his nemesis, "Your emotions mean nothing to me and you have absolutely no right to judge me for something my father did to my mother." His eyes left those of the guy for a moment to wander around the classroom and watch his peers closely. "I am nothing like him and I would never do anything to (f/n) like what he did to my mother."

The guy sitting next to you scoffed and added, "Well if you're anything like your mother, you must be pretty stupid and weak. I mean, if she was dumb enough to sleep with someone as sketchy as your dad, then she must be wrong in the head."

Kuroo frowned and shook his head. "Just the fact that you would even say something like that is so disrespectful. My mother is one of the strongest and smartest women I know. You might judge me for my upbringing, but let me remind you that I'm taking classes that are a much higher level than yours are and I have better grades than you do. Without my mom's help and guidance, I wouldn't have been able to make it this far. It's true that my mother had me as a result of a one night stand, but that doesn't change the fact that I love her and I look up to her, so why don't you do us all a favor and shut your damn mouth? Mind your own business."

You watched Kuroo with wide eyes, shocked slightly by what he's just said, but also extremely proud of him for saying it. Everyone else in the classroom was completely silent and seemingly frozen in time as they stared at Kuroo and at the guy sitting next to you.

After a few moments of silence, Kuroo shook his head with annoyance and picked his schoolbag up off the ground. "Come on, (f/n), let's go somewhere else where I'm not surrounded by idiots," he muttered and looked over at you. You quickly gathered up your things and slung your bag over your shoulder before standing up and walking out of the classroom with him.

Once the two of you were outside in the hallway, he wrapped his hand around yours and led you over to a wall. When you looked up into his eyes, you could sense a bit of insecurity, and it made your heart sink slightly.

"Did you ever think that I would leave you like my dad left my mom?" he wondered, his voice taking on a tender but serious tone.

You brought your hand up to his head and ran your fingers through his messy black locks. "Of course not. You're an amazing and trustworthy person, just like your mother is," you assured him. He smiled and pressed his lips against yours before giving you a hug. "You know, I still wonder how it's possible for you to be so smart when it comes to school yet such a dumbass when it comes to common sense."

"Aww, you're so mean," he whined and tightened his grip around you, giving you a squeeze, "But it's okay because I know you can't resist me."

As you looked up at him, you suddenly felt an overwhelming feeling of love towards him for being the person he was. He wasn't afraid to be different or to stand his ground, and you loved that about him.

"What's up with that look in your eyes?" he questioned teasingly and pressed his forehead against yours.

This made you smile and pull his chin towards you so that you could kiss him. "I love you so much, Tetsurou, and I'm so proud of you. I'm sure your mom is too."

Kuroo smiled brightly and hugged you again, lifting you up off the ground slightly as he said, "I love you too, (f/n), and I don't know what I'd do without you."

He felt so lucky to have a girlfriend who loved him unconditionally and a mother who supported and took care of him. Even though he didn't have a father that he knew, he felt more than happy with his life the way it was now with the people he loved and cared about the most in it.
