 ~ 1 month later ~

We were moving boxes from the moving truck to our new house. You might be wondering why, so I'll explain. After realizing how expensive Cali's operation would cost, my mom decided to ask help from her high school best friend who happened to be a doctor in Orlando, Florida. She said that this doctor would be able to give discount to us in terms of the professional fee charges and that the hospital where he works was not that costly. She also trusted this doctor more than the doctors back in California; well because this doctor was her best friend.

Cali has been in the new hospital for 2 days now. Tomorrow would be her first chemotherapy session and Mom was staying with her today while Caleb, Dad and I were moving things in our new home.

If you're wondering how Cali was, well she's as great as a sick person could get. She already knew about her situation and she didn't actually take it that bad. She was actually willing to fight for her life and she showed us how strong she was. I was actually so proud of her.

As I was picking up the last of the boxes from the truck, a blonde-haired, blue-eyed boy appeared out of nowhere which scared me and caused for my box to fall.

“Oh.. Erm.. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you. Here let me help.” He said as he bent down and picked up the books that fell out of the box.

“It's okay. It's nothing. I just didn't expect you to be there.”

“I'm sorry again. Anyway, my name's Connor, your next-door neighbor. And you are?” He asked as he placed the books inside the box and took it away from me.

“I'm Meg. It's nice to meet you, Connor.”

“It's nice to meet you too.”

“Would you like to come in? Although our house isn't that tidy since we're still moving things.” He nodded then we started heading towards the door and then I suddenly realized something, “Wait, do you happen to be a child of Dr. McDonough?”

“He's my Dad, why did you ask?” He replied, looking directly at me. It's just now that I realized how blue his eyes were. They were so beautiful. He also has nice facial features. White teeth, flawless face, and blonde hair that fell perfectly on his forehead. He's handsome.. No, he's beyond handsome.

I decided to shake away my thoughts about him before he noticed that I was staring at him, checking him out. “Uhh, nothing. You just said that you lived next door and my Mom told me that my sister's doctor happened to live right beside our new home.”

“OH! So you're the supposedly close family friend that we haven't met!” He laughed as he settled the box on my unmade bed. “My dad told me that he and your mom are best friends back in the old days, as they say.”

“Yeah. I actually haven't heard of him or you guys until last week when we decided to move here to Florida.” I admitted. I started opening boxes and unpacking some of my stuff for my room then I noticed Connor doing the same. “You don't have to do that you know.”

“But I want to.” He smiled at me as he started putting away the books on the shelf. “So, you're from?”

“Huh?” I asked, a bit confused because I was browsing through the pictures that I wanted to put up on my wall just above my bed.

“You said you guys just moved here. From where?”

“California.”

“Oh cool.” He commented. After that small talk, we just decided to do more unpacking and less talking. The room was filled with comfortable silence until I unpacked my iPod dock and placed my iTouch on it. I started playing songs by Paradise Fears.

I'll stay up all night,
Staring at the sky.
You're somewhere on the other side
And if you're sleeping alone tonight,
Let me be your lullaby.

Connor was singing along to the song and I couldn't help but notice how his singing was actually good. He had this angelic yet rough voice that you couldn't really explain but he's good. Very good, actually.

“So I'm taking it that you know Paradise Fears too?” I asked him as I finished putting up the pictures, picture frames and making my bed. Paradise Fears wasn't that known yet unlike One Direction, or All Time Low, or Mayday Parade but they're a good band.

“Oh yeah. They're a close friend of mine.” He stated as if it was the most normal thing to say in this world.

“Wait, what did you say?” I asked again, doubting my hearing senses.

“They're close friends? Paradise Fears? Sam Miller? Cole Andre? The other dudes? They're my friends.” He said nonchalantly as he placed the last book on the shelf.

“SERIOUSLY?!” I started freaking out as my inner fangirl was unleashed. He chuckled at me, probably because I looked ridiculous but whatever. This was Paradise Fears we're talking about!

“Yes, seriously. Anyway, changing topic, do you like how I fixed your bookshelf?” He asked, gesturing for me to take a look at it. I was actually impressed. He fixed it the way that I would too. He arranged it by the last name of the authors and then the titles of the book, alphabetically.

“I love it! That's how I would exactly do it too. Thank you!” I said I gave him a warm smile. Then suddenly Caleb appeared on my doorway.

“Meg, we have to go to the hospital early tomorrow morning so Dad told me to tell you to sleep early.” He said then he realized that I wasn't alone in the room. “And who do we have here? Don't tell me that you already have a boyfriend on our first day here in Orlando.”

My cheeks flushed red probably because of embarrassment but I tried to ignore it. “Yes, I'll just grab something to eat then I'll go to bed. Thank you for reminding me. And this is Connor; our new neighbor and Dr. McDonough's son.” I said, introducing them. “Connor, this is my little brother, Caleb.”

“It's nice to meet you.” Connor put out his hand for a hand shake but instead Caleb went for a bro fist.

“It's nice to meet you too. So, I'll leave you guys now. Goodnight.” He said as he closed my door and went to his room.

“Well, I guess I better go too. I'll see you around, okay?” He said as he pulled me in for a hug and he gave me a soft kiss on the cheek. Is it just me or did my cheeks felt really hot because of his gesture? I mean, we just met. It can't be that fast, right?

“Yeah. Thank you for helping me with my room too.” I hugged back.

“My pleasure.” And with that, he left my room and then I heard our front door close. I went into my bathroom to take a shower and changed into my pajamas then I jumped on my bed. Tomorrow's gonna be a long day.
